My sister and her husband are doing major home renovations and they have two small kids who were bored and underfoot while various contractors were coming and going.
Auntie to the rescue! I booked here because I know they have an indoor pool, valet parking and room service, as well as being centrally located to kid-friendly activities. I also brought my son with me, so in all, it was me and 3 children under age 5. Yes, I'm nuts.
We utilized valet parking, who were incredibly patient while I unfastened 3 carseats/booster seats and unloaded 3 overnight bags and a diaper bag. Bellman was great in helping me herd everyone inside and keep the bags rounded up. Front desk very efficient while I checked in with a toddler on my hip and two preschoolers clinging to my legs. Bellman accompanied us to our room and very kindly filled our ice bucket while I got the kids situated. The room was pretty standard. Clean and decently maintained. No complaints. Nice amenities in the bathroom.
We walked to the kid's museum a couple of blocks away for the afternoon, enjoyed the fountains at Triangle Park, had dinner at the Civic Center food court.
The 2 older kids couldn't wait to go swimming so we got changed and headed down to the pool. The pool is small and shallow and it was PACKED with a couple dozen older kids who were in town for a soccer tournament. Very loud but eventually cleared out and was quite enjoyable.
Once we were back in the room and everybody was in pajamas, I ordered a room service bedtime snack while the kids watched a movie. The kid's menu has cookies and milk for $2, and for your two bucks they get 3 big, soft cookies with whipped cream and sprinkles on the side and a serving of milk. And to have someone bring it to them in bed was just the coolest thing in the world as far as they were concerned.
I ordered the bourbon bread pudding from the adult menu and it was DELICIOUS. It was a huge serving, which I reluctantly couldn't finish, though I made a valiant effort.
We all slept well, the beds were very comfy with several extra pillows for everybody.
Bell service and valet parking were again very helpful and accomodating in helping me get my brood packed into the car upon checkout.
Good stay, no complaints at all. Would stay here again without hesitation.

Due to some renovations at our home, my husband and I needed a place to stay for one evening. We used name our own price at Priceline and got the room after taxes for $60. Check in line was long at 9pm!!! There was four wedding parties, four soccer teams, a AARP type convention AND some sort of ticket concert going on sale. Not to mention just the normal hustle and bustle of a Friday evening downtown crowd. The staff was very friendly - we have a "different" last name and they were very polite and asked us how to pronounce it first - signs of good training! The room is roomy, great TV stations but it is in DIRE, desperate need of a makeover. The location is superb if your coming from out of town. Lots of bars, restaurants, small sitting park, within walking distance. Rupp Arena and Hermitage hall are an elevator and esclator ride away. Ask for a high floor and vine street view to see the historic buildings of downtown. I would never pay $160 - this is what people were charging to the credit cards in front of us in line!!! No way. Not till some renovations start happening.

We got an amazing deal on a GREAT hotel. Staff was nice and was a great introduction to the city we now live in. Good average size room with nice view. We loved the bar with the glass ceiling especially when it rained. Since moving here we have recommended it to family visiting.

This is an old hotel. They told me that they are getting ready to rennovate the rooms, which really are in need of a major facelift. Luckily I only paid $60 a night on priceline.com. If I had paid the $135 a night that they were asking for, I would have been much more disappointed. It's definitely not worth that.
The lobby is nice enough, and the location is the best thing about this hotel. If you're looking for a hotel that is downtown or if you're looking to go to an event at Rupp Arena (which is connected to the hotel), this place is ideal. Once rennovations are done, it may be worth the $135 again, but until then, don't expect more of the rooms than you would at a Hampton Inn, etc.
