I have relatives who live in LaGrange, and we have eaten in Irish Rover before, and were pretty pleased. However, on our last visit, the service was so terrible that we ate elsewhere.
We happened to be in town around lunchtime, and we popped in to the Rover to make reservations for that evening, for six people. We arrived on time, and were met by a youngish woman who glared at us when we walked in. She then huffed off to check on our table and came back and pointed to a tiny booth in the very back of the bar area. The booth was clearly for 4 people and we said so. She then offered to bring a chair and stick it at the end, but it looked like it would be right in the path of either restroom patrons or the kitchen. We explained that we had made reservations, and she just said "it's not my fault, I don't make the seating plan". With that surly attitude, we felt that our $200 or so could easily go elsewhere, so we walked out. Understand that we are not overly picky people, and don't expect champagne treatment at a hole-in-the-wall pub. But this was completely over the top, particularly since we had deliberately made reservations. We went down the street to the new restaurant (119 Main Street - fabulous!) and even though they were hopping they met us with a smile, and FOUND a way to get us in their busy restaurant in just a few minutes. I was happy to spend my hard-earned money there.
