My wife and I, along with our two cats, stayed at the Motel 6 Lexington North in Georgetown, KY recently. We chose Motel 6 due primarily to their pet-friendly policy and the price. While I've had worse motel stays elsewhere, we were disappointed with this property for a number of reasons.
We arrived just after 7:00 p.m. on a Sunday evening to check in. The check-in process was professional, but the clerk did not seem very friendly or personable. The room itself was fairly spacious and updated, but it had more of what my wife called an Oriental feel with the hard flooring material and design of some of the furniture. Everything was in very good condition, but just wasn't a style we were fond of. The wooden chairs were the only available seating options besides the bed.
Two features which are often trouble spots in my experience--the bed/sleep quality and the quality of the HVAC unit, were among this room's strengths. We both had a sound night's sleep, and the HVAC unit was among the quietest and did the best job maintaining the desired temperature that I can remember from any motel stay in a long time. Our two cats appreciated having the second bed in the room and were content with the amount of space.
There were some drawbacks that stood out more for us beyond any cosmetic or style concerns. As noted previously, the clerk was professional but did nothing to help or encourage future business. The internet access, available for a $1.99 fee, was a catch-22 situation. We were able to get on as far as the screen to put in a code...but to get the code, you needed to be able to connect to PayPal to purchase it. We couldn't get to PayPal because it would drop our connection without a code. When we called the front desk, we were again referred to PayPal. Frustrated, we just gave up and settled for getting online at McDonald's the next morning at breakfast. Also, there was a considerable amount of noise from other guests out in the hall between shouting and slamming doors until around 11:00 p.m. that night. It did, however, remain quiet after that.
If one is looking for an inexpensive stay with a pet, doesn't mind a lot of noise, and doesn't need Internet access, the Motel 6 in Georgetown might be a workable option. However, despite some of its strengths, there were just too many frustrations about our stay where we wouldn't consider it for a future trip and would think of other pet-friendly options in the Lexington area.
