I stayed at the Wickam Inn last night and was not pleased. I arrived after 10PM and was tired from a long weekend and a day of traveling. The desk clerk was not pleasant but not rude. However, she insisted I provide a copy of my PCS orders which were not readily available. She said that's ok, just bring a copy down once you are settled in your room as it was hotel policy that PCS guests provide these orders. We quarreled for several minutes on this issue until I assured her that the hotel would get a copy. Once in the room I got settled so that I could unwind and get ready for an early morning. It wasn't until I was settled that I realized the grout in the floor was black (a light sand is what color showed in the non-traffic areas), the carpet was stained, the caulk around the tub was coming off with water damage visible at the baseboards, mildewed caulk surrounded the toilet, the bath tub had a matte-finish haze with a gray impression left from the rubber matt. Further, the internet would not work, no ice bucket, an unpainted drywall repair was on the wall and the bed comforters were faded with ragged stitching coming undone. Was this really guest lodging or a seedy hotel? I was too tired to move to another room but was able to get a swift transfer with minimal hassle to the much nicer Newgarden Inn. If you must stay in guest lodging on Fort Knox, strive to get a room at the Newgarden, it is much nicer with a more polite staff and very clean rooms.
