“Lovely Sunday Carvery”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2013

We went to the Ship because my dad first went there in 1947, his father Harry Greatrex used to live on the meadow and run the chain ferry that ran across the river. We had a lovely Sunday carvery, it was the best carvery we have had in a very long time, choice of four meats, at least six different veggies and gravy to die for, well done, the surrounds are lovely also, nice friendly staff. Well done to everyone.

An easy first day's walking on the Geopark Way concluded at this delightful (not as olde-worlde as you might fear) riverside pub. A good-sized room - with bath - at a sensible price, a delight for the rain-soaked walker to take shelter in. A decent pint of Banks's Mild, as befits a good west midland pub. A view of the river from the bedroom window, and the sound of steam train whistles from the adjacent Severn Valley heritage railway. There's a riverside terrace to sit with your pint/meal, if the English summer weather ever allows it. Things that would make a good place a better place: not having to dodge between parked cars and industrial-sized dustbins to get to the accommodation entrance; and proper loo paper, rather than those (also industrial-sized) '1 sheet at a time' dispensers.

Room Tip: Anything with a river view is good.

Ann & Tony from Leicester stayed at the Ship Inn Monday-Thursday 3rd-6th June 2013. We had a Wowcher deal for the Ship Inn and so stayed 3 nights with bed, breakfast and one evening meal. What a bargain and what a wonderful time we had. As we used to live in Shropshire it was an ideal base from which to visit friends. We had absolutely no complaints about our stay, our room was lovely and very, very clean (with a double and a single bed) The staff were more than helpful, couldn't do enough. In our case there was no shortage of tea, coffee, milk etc. and if there was - all we had to do was ask. The food was excellent value, we tried the LARGE fish (which was massive and very tasty) & chips and also the curry (eat as much as you like). Both meals were Excellent. There are lovely long walks along the river, and a steam-train station nearby. VERY RELAXING. We had a fantastic time. Have already asked about another stay!!

My friend and i were out enjoying a pleasant walk along the majestic Severn Valley when we stumbled upon this lovely pub, it has a wonderful outside seating area with views over rolling Shropshire countryside and the slow meandering River Severn. The food was delivered quickly and at a good price . we had baguettes and chips for around £5 a head .
The Severn Valley railway runs past behind the pub , so easy to hop on and off .
id definately recommend this pub as a stop over for food.

Arth and i stayed for 2 nights as we were given a Wowcher voucher for 1 night as a gift and we added another night.
A very full and bustling pub / bar / restaurant upon arrival at 4pm on Bank holiday monday May 27th. and were greeted by pleasant staff and shown to our room. only initial gripe was that a double was asked for and we were allocated a family room with 2 single beds.
Down to the bar / restaurant for a few drinks and dinner. The sea bass was amazing!. Not too good a nights sleep as the room has a slope and the beds were on it with fiber filled single duvets which don't cover a mouse. and flat pillows plus the annoying sachets of Nescafe with a small amount of milk portions....why?...also the only mirror in the room was fixed to the wall behind the door on a sloping wall,..too low to stand and do your hair and too high if sat on the bed? ~Also hearing the constant flushing of the adjacent rooms wc throughout the night was annoying.
a good full English the following morning plus an excellent Rib eye steak for dinner when we returned from a full day out.
All in all a very clean room, just lacking in a few comfort factors.
A good English breakfast made up for the poor nights sleep!

Room Tip: Ideal as a base , within easy traveling distance of several tourist locations and helpful polite sta...

We did not stay at the ship inn even though it was tempting, but we had lunch there, we were having a day out on the steam trains which run right pass the inn, so we stopped for lunch. Food was amazing, it was all made fresh, it was a lot of it too and for good value. It was so good we went there again the following week (we were on hols for two weeks) , we are going to go there again in July it defo stuck in our minds.

My wife and I stayed for one night using a wowcher. If you're a fan of the countryside and/or scenic villages and towns then this place makes an ideal base as the likes of Bridgnorth, Ironbridge and Bewdley are all close by. We were also approximately a two minute walk from Highley station on the Severn Valley Railway line. We couldn't fault the cleanliness of the pub and room that we had, the quality and quantity of the meals or the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff (we were offered occupancy of our room on arrival at midday) and wouldn't hesitate to make a return visit to The Ship Inn if we visit this beautiful part of the country again.
