“Much improved food and atmosphere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 11, 2013

We had visited this pub several times under previous owner as the location is idyllic and perfect for refreshment after walking up Pegsdon Hills.
After reopening under new ownership we have had the pleasure of two very enjoyable Sunday lunches there. Locally sourced produce and relaxing decor make for a lovely dining experience with live piano music an added bonus. My roast pork with crackling and all the trimmings delicious, and fish and chips and roast chicken much enjoyed at our table.
Service great with friendly members of staff who seem to all enjoy being a part of the team.
If I had to say anything negative it would be - more meringue in the Eton Mess please!
We look forward to spring and summer when we can sit outside.
So pleased we have this lovely pub within a shortish drive. We are very lucky!

“Oh dear!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

We had a meal here and it was really poor, very limited menu, only two starters and six main courses, it was a weird experience. Possibly the worst fish pie I have ever had, grey fish, fish skin and pickled leeks included. I will not be going back.

“What a view!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 23, 2013

On a warm day one can eat lunch in the garden of the Live and Let Live and not only admire the view of Pegsdon Hills, including its high point, Deacon Hill (all part of the Chilterns), but also have a very good chance of seeing Buzzards and Red Kites soaring or gliding overhead. There are footpaths providing a circular walk to the top of the hills and back down. The ancient track of the Icknield Way (perhaps the oldest road in Britain) runs along the top of the ridge, a 'green lane' extending for some 170 miles through six English counties. In late summer, butterflies such as the Chalkhill Blue visit the flowers in the pub's garden.
The Live and Let Live closed last year, but its reopening under a new regime is cause for cheering by walkers and naturalists in need of refreshment. The menu boasts that most of the produce used is locally sourced and includes intruiging dishes that just ask to be sampled - char-grilled carrot, goat's cheese and beetroot meringue, for instance, and who could resist cheese from a farm called Wobbly Bottom?
If it's not warm enough to dine outside, the restaurant itself is warm and welcoming. The food is above average, and the service is friendly and efficient, but the real strength of this venue is its wonderful location and spectacular view up to the rounded contours of the chalk hills of the Chilterns.
