“Very pleasant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2013 via mobile

Stayed here for a couple of nights during half term. The building works are still ongoing but that did not affect our stay. We had a lovely room at the back of the hotel overlooking the garden and open fields. The beds were very comfy and well furnished. However, the bathroom was not up to standard and really needed refurbishment. Peeling paint and not very clean- dust along top of lampshades. This really needs to be sorted out as it lets the hotel down.

The bar area was very comfortable and the staff were very friendly and efficient. The food was good but not outstanding and we left the restaurant still feeling hungry as portion sizes were a little small.

That aside we enjoyed our stay and would return but please sort out the bathroom.

We went on a living social deal for our first wedding anniversary. It was our first full spa day experience and upon telephone booking the lady on reception wasn't particularly helpful and I had to ask a lot of questions, what time we were allowed to arrive, how we booked our voucher treatments etc. I was also surprised I needed to secure the booking with a credit card although we had already booked and paid by living social.

On arrival the staff were very welcoming and helpful and the spa facilities were very clean and well maintained. The size and range of facilities available was just perfect.

The magazines on offer were all 'good housekeeping' and others aimed at older women. A better selection including books and also some men's mags to suit husband would be good.

Our treatments were outstanding, I had Mary and she was simply brilliant.

Lunch looked fabulous but service was a little slow (starters took 25 mins to come even though we had pre pre ordered lunch) and the food was entirely tasteless, made up for only by its presentation and the nice champagne. The staff were pleasant and helpful, but some fine tuning required on service skills.

It is well worth the £69 living social deal and at that price is good value for money - but had we paid more we would have felt underwhelmed by the overall experience.

Stayed at The Greenway on a Secret Escapes deal, pretty place, beautiful room and spa facilities. Would stongly recommend this hotel.

The room was beautiful, the spa was amazing, we went mid week so very quiet.

An impromptu meeting place to catch up with my cousin could not have been more delightful. Booking the day before hand over the phone with a young lady called Karina. She was helpful and on hand on my arrival. Check in was a breeze and my room spacious. It was welcoming and well stocked with all the usuals, fruit, coffee and assorted teas. The bathroom, modern, beautifully appointed with all the toiletries required. Our rooms were over the Spa and had a lovely view of a courtyard below but also countryside in the distance
Our meal in the dinning room was delicious and obviously seasonal. The cheese selection divine and the wine list extensive. Service was good and friendly. Breakfast the same. I am quite difficult to please with my eggs....they were perfect. Again the food was fresh and cooked perfectly. Fresh orange juice would have been marvellous!
Decor throughout the hotel was good. The lounge cried out for a glimpse of colour as opposed to the coffee browns and golds but it was comfortable with lovely views and relaxing sofas and chairs. Main bar had a splash of colour but also a noisy fridge
The evening...and I wished it had been longer was delightful. The service..professional but friendly. The food...honestly delicious (2lbs worth on hips). Grounds beautiful. AT THIS MOMENT there is some building work being done on the facia of the front building ( October 24th-maybe early November). This did not impair our stay at all. It was a wonderful jolly time. Value for money too. Drawbacks ....none. Apart from the fact I would have preferred a sheet with the duvet as am a warm sleeper
Greenways. A definite repeater

Had a very tasty and substantial lunch recently at the Greenway Hotel. Initial impression on arriving was a bit daunting as the whole of the front of this beautuful building was covered in scaffolding and polythene. We learned from excellent bar man that this is only temporary and everything should be removed shortly when essential repair work has been carried out. The hotel is in such beautiful surroundings and the interior is so nicely maintained in keeping with its age. Excellent staff served us pre prandials and took us through to the dining room. We were so fortunate it was a superb day and the doors were open on to the lovely court-yard and gardens. The meal itself was delicious - no fault whatsoever - but, be warned, it is expensive to say the least for a 3 course traditional Sunday roast. Would definitely return because of the ambience, location and quality of food, but it would have to be for a very special occasion.

The spa facilities were excellent as were the girls doing the beauty treatments. The same cannot be said for the lady who appeared to be in charge of the spa. She wasn't very welcoming and not at all approachable. The major downside was the "extortionate" amount charged for two pots of tea - £9.50 without even a small biscuit! I don't like being ripped off so beware of this if you visit.

We have just returned from a joint 50th birthday celebration at the Greenway. The interior of the hotel is lovely and the food was excellent. We were allocated a beautiful room at the back of the hotel with lovely views BUT our friends were allocated a room at the front. The windows are covered In scaffolding and tarpaulin. You cannot open the windows as men are walking past on the scaffolding taking the rendering off the building.

We immediately complained and were offered champagne. We said this was unacceptable as we had not been warned about the major the works and would not be placated with champagne and would not stay in this room. After over an hour of arguing our point we were given another back room for the night but told they were full and would not let us stay there the following night saying we had to move into the tarpaulin covered room.

The lady who eventually showed us to our new room showed us into the unacceptable room again and was rude when we pointed out her mistake.

Quite frankly this ruined the start of our weekend. The customer is definitely NOT king in this hotel.

Consequently we went to a different hotel the next night and the staff were incredibly welcoming and helpful. And very accommodating.

The spa is lovely here as is the interior of the the hotel. However I cannot believe a four star hotel think it acceptable to put guests who are paying the full room rate into substandard rooms.

Room Tip: Do not book a room t the front if building works are still going on
