“Beautifully integrated with nature n padi fields”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2013

We spent 3 nights of our honeymoon in the Ubud villa. It is unbelievable how beautiful the landscape was. Everywhere in the hotel, you can see plants beautifully integrated within the hotel. There's lush greenery everywhere.

The suite has a semi-outdoor bathroom, with a rustic Balinese charm with all the wooden carvings which Bali is so famous for. The only downside to this outdoor, surrounded-by-greenery concept was that a giant wasp kept lurking in the bathroom for 2 days.

We were able to check out the Perliatan villa, the most expensive villa of the hotel. But at USD160++, it is absolutely worth booking this villa. Other then the usual room facilities, it has its own yard with an outdoor stone Jacuzzi, a day bed, and outdoor table and chairs, etc. And it is literally just 3 meters from one of the 2 pools in the hotel. The only drawback is that it is on the 1st floor, so you won't get to enjoy the padi field view from your room.

Nobody really mentioned, but Bebek Tepi Sawah is really famous for 2 other things. Its Bebek (which means 'duck' in Balinese), and its fantastic art gallery. Ubud is famous for its crispy duck, and although the "Bebek Begil" (which means 'Dirty Ducks') is more famous, the ducks that the hotel serve is just as good, if not better. You can literally eat the entire duck, including the bones, as it has been fried to such perfection.

The art gallery at the entrance of the hotel is filled with unusual finds. Apparently the owner is also an avid arts and transportation collector. He has numerous limited edition Harleys, a US jeep used in Afghanistan, and a plane, if I don't remember wrongly. You can see pictures of Suharto (the past Indonesian president) visiting the gallery at least 3 times during this lifetime. The art finds are just exotic. There was a mural which was 3 by 5 metres (or longer) and yet with intricate details of the Balinese life. It's almost like a "Where's Wally" mural, except on a much larger scale and with a Balinese twist. Pity, that not many people visited the gallery. Throughout our 1.5 hours there, we were the only ones inside the few hundred sqm gallery. Most people probably thought it was too boring! But you really miss out if you stayed there and never visited the gallery.

By the way, the breakfast is really good. The juices are ultra-fresh and super yummy.

***Outside the hotel***
The hotel is 10-15min drive from town, but the transport is readily available (just call 10min in advance and the driver and car will be ready for you). Even the drivers were so friendly and they acted as our part-time tour guides too.

When in Ubud, the food that you must, Must, MUST try are:
- Crispy duck @ Bebek Begil (right beside the largest Cocomart)
- Cafe Wayan @ Monkey Forest Road (a large garden with 'pavillions')
- Ibu Rai @ Monkey Forest Road (tasty and cheap fine dining)
- Ibu Oka near Moneky Forest (OMG it's so good it is crowded whole day!)
- Naughty Nuri's Pork Ribs nearer to Ayung River

Activities:
- White Water Rafting, Bukit Cilli Rafting @ Telagawaga River
- Majestic view of the ocean at Uluwatu (cliff/mountain)
- Padi farms layered at side of mountains at Tegalalang (it is along the way of other attractions, though Jatiwaluh is much larger and nicer)
- Climb Mt Batur (or if you ain't fit, just ride a car up!)
- Have some kopi luwak (weasel coffee) at an organic farm on a mountain
- Spa at Putri Ayu (no gorgeous padi-field-views here, but with one of the best prices with nice private rooms and showers. It is just a few shops away from Naughty Nuri's Pork Ribs so you plan them together!)

Room Tip: Request for rooms on the 2nd level to wake up to the beautiful view of the padi fields in the mornin...

I visited Bali for 9 nights in January and spent 6 of them at the Bebek Tepi Saweh and it was amazing. The grounds are so beautiful!, I had 2 different rooms and my friend who also stayed had one room so I was able to see 3 out of the 4 room choices. The rooms are spacious and the bathtubs are so big and luxurious. The 2 pools are so beautiful and everything about the grounds makes you feel so peaceful as you take in all the beauty.
The full breakfast every morning was absolutely delicious and there are so many choices.

My husband and I booked the honeymoon package which included a number of extras (90min couples spa session-amazing!) and extended th package to stay for five nights in total.
When we arrived they told us there were problems with the air conditioning unit in th room we booked (campuhan) and so they upgraded us to the Peliatan suite. It was amazing. There was a big spa, double bed and dining area outside the room, free wi fi, large double bed and spacious room inside and the outdoor bathroom was very impressive.
The breakfasts are great. Very simple but delicious with fresh fruit and freshly squeezed juices available every morning. My French Canadian husband couldn't get over how delicious the croissants were (he's been in NZ for a while now and said he'd forgotten how good proper ones tasted!).
The staff are super friendly and helpful. Service is very quick with meals (I'd say only 5min max between finishing starters and being served mains!).
We ate at the main restaurant for dinner one night, it is beautifully set amongst the rice paddy and we had their delicious crispy duck! Be careful with the sauces they provide they are super hot!
The shuttle service was very convenient and we usually got whichever restaurant we had dinner at to ring them for us to pick us up rather than prearrange pick up. It's not far to main Ubud (jl. Raya), but it would def take at least 30-40mins walking I'd say.
There were only two things that weren't as good as we would have thought:
1. The sheets and bedcovers were stained in places, they were very clean but just a bit unsightly!
2. The air conditioning unit went mental sometimes and we'd have to choose between trying to sleep when it was really hot or having wierd noises coming from th machine. But it didn't happen often so again not a biggy!
Overall we had the best time at Bebek Tepi Sawah and would highly recommend it!!

Stayed here with my sister in law, mother in law and niece.. all of us loved the hotel. The staff were great, food awesome, very nice rooms, and lazy days around the pool. We didn't like the the driver that was hired by the hotel to take us on a tour of the area..the day we were out looking for silver- the drive kept taking us to the high end silver stores. The other activities the hotel arranged were great though.

We checked in to the Batuan Villa for 3 person during a family trip to Ubud. The airport pick-up cost us IRP600,000 back and forth. The Batuan villa, which is infact only a big room, was located at the upper floor. The room was alright. Big and considered clean. However, the bed sheet and towels were stained. But it's not dirty. The bed wasn't that comfy, as we were having problem with our back the next day. However, the water pressure was ok. And nice view from the balcony. I think for Batuan Villa, the view from the upper floor is nicer.

Breakfast was good. And the request for free shuttle to the city was quick. Basically just have to wait for about 20 mins. The hotel has 2 pools, but only one look cleaner. They even serve us simple afternoon tea which is a plus. We didn't manage to try the SPA. As there are plenty of good spa in Ubud. In comparison, these 2 small huts in the small paddy field right infront of the hotel room looks quite pathetic which that kinda price they charge.

Overall, it was a pleasant few nights stay in ubud. Especially travel with family. It's quite convenient to travel to everywhere. And there is a good restaurant attached to the hotel which is fairly good. But if you are expecting a quiet, relaxing luxury retreat, it's pretty dissappointing. Infact they are better choices in Ubud. If the staffs could put on more smile to their guest, it'll make the stay even more enjoyable.

Room Tip: Choose the upper floor for batuan villa with a better view.

I've stayed at Tepi Sawah twice now, once with a female friend and I've just come back from a trip with my boyfriend, mum and dad. The hotel is in a beautiful setting which is so well looked after with lovely gardens and rice fields. I've stayed in a Batuan villa and Ubud villa, both are very nice - the Ubud villa is Balinese in style and is beautiful (one or two things could probably do with updating) with a partially outside bathroom so you can shower under the stars. The Batuan villa is more modern inside with newer fixtures and fittings. Both have lovely balconies - if you book I would definitely recommend asking the hotel if you can have an upstairs room as the views are so much better than those on the ground floor.

The hotel has a free shuttle service and this was great - they were very flexible on timing and were always on time so it saved us a lot of hassle getting taxis to town, especially with my parents. It's so much nicer being a few mins drive from ubud centre in such a stunning setting rather than being in the town.

The food is pretty decent, breakfasts are simple, but there is a good selection. The bebek restaurant seems to be quite popular and did get a bit busy at times with people coming in just for lunch or dinner, but there are no shortage of tables and it was not really a problem.

The spa was great, probably one of the best massages I've had. Would definitely recommend this.

Staff were polite and helpful and everyone says 'hello' to you as you come and go.

There is quite a lot of wildlife and you may be woken by a cockerel or two! For me it just added to the feeling of being in a rural retreat, but some may not like it.

So in summary, if you are looking for a well priced retreat in beautiful surroundings, with a lot of the service you would expect from a bigger hotel, this is definitely the place to come.

When I went to the hotel, they couldn't find my reservation, so I had to wait really long. However they gave me a welcome drink while I waited. I booked the biggest room (dont remember the name) but it wasn't ready. It was looking at the rice paddy.. except it looked more like a swamp than a paddy. The rooms didn't look as nice as the photos as well. Had two little cute pools. With the price, I think it's okay...
