This visit to the Hampton Inn started out fantastic. Check-in was painless and the staff was very friendly throughout the entire stay. We were settled very quickly and ready to enjoy our family trip.
The room was very clean and neat. I wasn't overly impressed with the bed I slept in... I personally felt that it was a bit too stiff, however, that is just personal preference. The sheets and blankets were definitely soft and comfortable. Breakfast each morning was excellent. It was hot and there was plenty to choose from.
The meeting room where we were gathered seemed to be very clean upon entry and able to accommodate our large group of family. I liked that it had a sink and plenty of counter space for our food and drinks.
Then things got a bit interesting....
My immediate family booked a room for one night as a part of our larger family gathering at this hotel. A little late on our part, we tried to book a second night and were continually declined because the entire hotel was full, so we checked elsewhere. Every hotel within close range was packed. At that point, the Hampton Inn scrambled trying to accommodate us with cots (for a fee) to set up in our meeting room, offered us blankets, the couch in the lobby, etc. I thought this was great, but they sold out of the cots to other families before we were able to purchase ours. Our extended family rallied, however, and offered us spare beds in their rooms and it all worked out.
Just after we got settled with extended family on the 3rd floor (this was around 11:30 p.m.), we discovered something happened with the elevator and that it would temporarily be out of order. For those members of my family that were already set for bed, this was not a major issue. However, two members of my extended family require a wheelchair for assistance and one was left stranded on the first floor when the elevator shut down. I would like to express that I completely understand there was nothing the hotel staff could do about the elevator shutting down, however, we were all a little confused why the two family members in wheel chairs were given rooms on the 3rd floor in the first place, and one of those members (the sweet girl stranded on the first floor) was not given a "handicap room" when it was requested when they booked. Keep in mind, the hotel was entirely sold out so there were no first floor rooms to offer her and there was no longer any cots for sale. It got later and later and there was no other option but for this family member to attempt the stairs on her own, which could have been dangerous.
Again, I would like to emphasize that it was not the fault of the staff at the Hampton Inn, but I do believe there should be protocol in place for situations like these.
We plan to return next year and hopefully the experience of the second night will not be repeated!
