“Good Value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2006

Stayed at the Holiday Inn for a weekend, and found it to be quite satisfactory. Staff was pleasant - including the housekeepers, room was large and clean and fairly updated. The king size bed was a little hard but still slept well. Even though it is close to interstate, noise was not a problem, and did not hear any noise from within the hotel. There is a nice large pool, that was never crowded. Location convenient to downtown Cincinnati or to Newport on the Levee, but you do need to drive.

When we checked in, the lobby was filled with kids having a dance at the place (and spending the night at the hotel). The desk clerk assured us that they would keep the kids under control. Well, the kids were nice, and they were kept under control. Good stay -- nice rooms -- super-convenient to downtown Cincinnati.

My wife and I stayed here for the weekend for an in-town wedding. I was expecting the ususl Holiday Inn blah, but this was an impressive refurbishing. Everthing in the hotel rooms are new, and the web saver rates are $15 cheaper that the Courtyard. The breakfast was overpriced, and not much on it. The staff was friendly and helpful. Definately would stay again.

We stayed at this hotel for a week in early November while attending a conference at the Cincinnati Cinergy Convention Center, booked the room prepaid at Holiday Inn's website ($90 per night, though I've seen even lower rates at other times). We arrived well after midnight on the first night and I had called ahead to let them know, so as soon as we arrived the night manager knew our names and had the keys to the room ready. The room had a huge pull-out desk, great for business travellers who need the space to work. Free wireless signal strength was very good. Other aspects of the room seemed a bit old, but the hotel is currently undergoing renovations; the noise wasn't bad, but the water did get cut off on some days which they had warned us about. Once my wife went downstairs to the lobby restroom to brush her teeth, and a staff who saw that called the manager who then gave us a coupon for 50% off the total bill for a meal at the hotel's restaurant. The restaurant serves continental and hot breakfast buffet. The selection was adequate but maybe a little expensive, however the service was very good. The waitress saw that we were dressed up for the conference and asked whether we had the Dept of State breakfast coupons; I told her that we weren't from the DOS but were in fact attending same conference, so she gave us the discount anyway. We didn't eat lunch or dinner at the hotel because of business engagements, but the restaurant displays a sample of the dinner specials in the evening and they always looked so much better than the banquet dinners we had on various nights at the conference. Free cookies and apples at the front desk and plenty of fast food places across the street too. Parking is free at the hotel. The TANK shuttle to downtown Cincinnati and Newport stops every 15 minutes in front of the hotel, $1 per ride; however in the evening we always drove across the river to Cincinnati and were able to find free street parking. The exercise room had a number of equipment plus TV and water cooler in it, but I was too lazy to use it. Perhaps it would have been more convenient to stay in downtown Cincinnati, but I liked where we stayed and didn't feel much inconvenienced by the location or the renovation work at the hotel.

We would not recommend this hotel. When we first arrived, there was no one at the front desk and we had to wait for several minutes. This was our first time in the Cincinnati area so we had some questions, but the front desk clerk was not very helpful. She acted like we should just already know how to catch the shuttle, the best way to the ballpark, etc. The next night we needed to find a pharmacy or a grocery store and the front desk clerk was not very friendly then either (different clerk). She did give us accurate directions, but she didn't tell us it wasn't the best neighborhood to be traveling in after dark. The water pressure in the shower was non-existent. The free parking was good. The restaurant area was very old and run down, but the the breakfast waitress was very nice.

I enjoyed my stay here. Was very easy to get to Cincinnati by cab and quite inexpensive. Beats trying to drive there not knowing your way around. The hotel staff was friendly and very accommodating to every need. Polite telephone manners go a long way. The hotel is very close to the Mainstrasse district with many interesting eateries, bars, and shops close by - close enough to walk, safely, too! I would return to this hotel and recommend it to the higher priced hotels in Cincinnati proper. The Waffle House restaurant had a great price on breakfast, too. Love those smothered hash browns...sorry, health food nuts!

The hotel is tidy with adequate facilities and free parking.

There are some fast food eateries opposite and it's about a 5-10 minute walk to Covington landing with Cincinnati about 20 minutes walk.

The only possible improvement would be if it was nearer Covington landing - but if you want this convenience you will have to pay more for the other hotels that are nearer.
