“Dupont stay May 23 & 24, 2013”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 25, 2013

We just spent two nights at Dupont Lodge this week. The rooms were fine, very clean as well as the bathroom, which could have used a little shelf to hold make-up etc. We were just very disappointed with the grounds, especially the the Lodge patio area. The furniture looked very chipped and sad. It could have used some spray paint & a few pots of flowers to make it look very lovely. I would not think this would be to much work. The same for the front entry. The weeds need to be pulled there as well as by the gift shop.- where there was a blooming thistle up to your shoulder. The large lodge room was furnished so nicely, but smelled badly & once again, needed some plants or something to make it welcoming. We did eat there two nights, lovely young waitress on Wed. & one very inattentive one on Thurs. A couple of others stepped up thought. Thought maybe they could have changed the jello on the salad bar instead of serving the left over the second night. Again, what I couldn't have done for attractiveness outside those windows. Some hanging plants along with the feeders. We enjoyed the solitude and the walk to the Falls.

Room Tip: AC was very, very loud. If you watched TV had to be turned way up.

Three of us stayed one night (2 queens beds)for $85. Rooms have older decor but clean and comfortable. Restaurant onsite serves large portions. Food was good and reasonably priced. I had the catfish platter which included a salad bar. We also had a good breakfast while enjoying a magnificent view of the mountains and the Cumberland River from our table. I recommend staying here while visiting the Falls.

So you have seen all the reviews of this place being a bit run down, with small rooms and in the middle of nowhere. Well, staying in an isolated place isn't always a bad thing, so cell-phone reception isn't good at all, so what, you're on vacation or spending quality time away from things. Rooms are small, but comfortable with just what you need. In a beautiful place like the park offers, you should be outside enjoying nature more than you are in your room. As for the condition of the lodge, it has seen it's better days, but it was built in the 1930s. It has some creaks and the sound installation could be better, but again, it's an older lodge, built in a time when people weren't so concerned with all the luxuries.
We enjoyed our stay immensely. The bed was very comfortable, the isolation was welcomed and the proximity to the Falls and trails was great.
The Eagle Falls Trail IS probably one of the best I have ever hiked!
The staff was friendly and the rooms were clean. The only issue we had was with our shower not maintaining a warm temperature throughout.
We did not however enjoy the restaurant. The view is nice and location wonderfully convenient, but the food has much to be desired. If you like everything fried, you'll be fine.
We will probably stay here again. We have camped here as well, and may do that again, but the park, the trails and the Falls deserve a return trip. That's why you come here anyway.

A last minute get-away took us to this beautiful Lodge in south eastern Kentucky. It was clean, quiet and comfortable. The front desk workers were friendly and helpful. The restaurant served delicious meals with a fantastic view of the river. The bird feeders outside the dining room windows were active with birds, squirrels and even a groundhog. The "show" was always enjoyable! The Cumberland Falls were beautiful with many great photo ops. The Lodge is just a short drive from the Original Kentucky Fried Chicken in Corbin, which was an enjoyable lunch out. We didn't get to try any of the hiking trails this time but will the next - there will be a next time!

A wonderful park, way out in the Eastern Kentucky woods! The lodge was rustic, full of great wood and stone work (CCC construction, I think), with a patio overlooking the hills and river. Very tasty food in the lodge restaurant, both for dinner and breakfast. The hiking trails were really enjoyable, leading through Appalachian woodland and past an array of wildflowers. The falls themselves were spectacular. We stayed in one of the cabins, which was cozy, set out in the forest. I'd definitely go back.

The natural setting of this historic lodge complete with log beams, wagon wheel lighting and old stone fireplaces in addition to the magnificent Cumberland Falls below outshines any minor complaints I had with the place. This is a site for those who love nature, families and hikers, with several good hiking trails right in the park. It is located far into the wooded hills of southeastern Kentucky on the top of a mountain above the Falls. The #1 hiking trail in Kentucky with views of two waterfalls and scenic limestone recessions in the hillsides is right across the river. The hike from the lodge down to the falls and back is a nice morning wake-up. The patio overlooking the Cumberland River is a great place to relax and meet up. The rooms are clean and perfectly adequate--it's a state park! We stayed in a twin cottage. I was promptly lent a hairdryer upon request and my bed was comfortable with good pillows. An extra deck chair was delivered as promised. The buffet food is well prepared southern fare--fried chicken, pork bbq, fried or baked catfish, real cornbread and salad daily. I loved it! Diet when you get home. A table with a view of the river snaking in the distance and the active birdfeeder was delightful. My cell phone reception and internet were spotty, which I expected being so many miles from a highway. If you don't like being in the woods or appreciate the merits of historic lodges, stay somewhere else and visit the falls for the day.

This is a beautiful older lodge. The lodge has a dated feel but in a way that is part of its charm. I’ve been in older hotels in desperate need of renovation and that is not the feel here. I just can’t explain why.

The location inside the park is amazing. Our room looked out over the park and the view was great. I did find it a bit odd that the blinds were configured so they could not be opened all the way but we tied them with a bit of cord and the view was great.
The park has great hiking trails and very knowledgeable and friendly rangers. If you care to there are a couple of trails the lead out right from the lodge including one that takes you right to the falls.

If you are looking for flat screen TVs an all the latest hotel fads keep looking but if you want a nice clean room in a beautiful setting this is really the place to go.
