“Lovely Historic Hotel in Small College Town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2012

Enjoyed a 3 night stay at the historic Boone Tavern Hotel in Berea, the center for Kentucky Arts and Crafts. The room was comfortable and quiet with handcrafted wood furniture; soft classic colors, pillows, and draperies that gave the room an upscale but comfortable old home effect. The bathroom was spacious and had modern white tile. I loved that the window could be open to the cool fresh night air, it was very quiet, except for the 7:00am leaf blower that cleared the sidewalks of leaf litter.
Dining room was elegant, freshly prepared foods, with quick service for our group's pre-ordered meals and yummy desserts. Attempts were made to provide special meals for individuals with dietary needs, food choices were limited Students from the college were the servers, however, hey did not seem comfortable answering questions about the dishes being served.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the back were quieter, but the location is a small town. There is some traffic noise i...

Did not stay the nite, were there for lunch but you can feel a place with just a luncheon visit. It is clear the staff and management understand what level of service Boone Tavern is about. Although not technically a full-service hotel, it has the feel. The rehab has done all you can within the skin of this beautiful old structure. They make a point of being LEED Certified...as they should. The interior decoration is straight out of "Old Ver-gin-eah." The styles, colors and fabric meet the test and the lobby seating areas are ample and not crowded.

There is attention to keeping things spare. No clutter, no waste. And a real test...the restrooms. They spent moo-la on making these spaces current, well lighted, clean and fresh. It is so easy for this space to be ignored as an expense item...not here.

We had reservations for Saturday 12:30 p.m. and were taken immediately to our table. There was an increasingly long line waiting. Elegant young lady playing classical guitar was a nice touch.

Menu is sufficient. Bird's nest chicken at $17 is pricey for what it is. Same for the one filet of catfish but nicely prepared. Service was slow and the waiter was trying to hard with the annoying banter...just answer questions, serve and get out of the way. I don't need a stand-up act.

Based on the crowd in the dining room (including us) this is a spot for the senior crowd. Plenty of light so you can read the menu, ample space (not stacked atop each other), noise level okay and reasonably clean table settings.

Finally, as you read these reviews note that management responds to EVERY message...this is quite rare. Just means they care enough to pay attention.

Enjoyed a two night stay here. This historic place had a fairly recent complete green redo. My room was small but very adequate and had a nice size bathroom. Good bed, free wifi. The workers try to go out of their way to be helpful. No free breakfast but coffee in your room. My only complaint was that the room desk chair was super uncomfortable. Oh, and the town is "dry" if you are looking for wine or a cocktail with dinner. You can work out for free at the nearby Berea College by showing your room key.

I spent 2 nights at this lovely Berea Hotel and loved everything about it. The concept of Berea College and the work program for students is well integrated into this hotel. Most of the staff we spoke with were students and excellent ambassadors of the school. The rooms were furnished with furniture handcrafted by the students and was beautiful. The room was thoughtfully decorated with everything that could be needed. The restaurant was lovely and food consistently good at every meal. Not only is this hotel a gem but a wonderful bargain as well. The location is adjacent to shops that stock student or local artist made items.

We spent the night at Boone Tavern on the way to a long weekend in Asheville. The hotel is beautiful, clean, and the staff as friendly and helpful as could be. We stayed in rooms 320 and 322 so we could have some extra space with our children, as these rooms are adjoining. Our room was well-appointed with handcrafted furniture, a comfortable sitting area, and an enormous bathroom with jetted tub. My children were in a standard bedroom with a double bed -- just the right size for them. We could have stayed at a typical off-the-highway location, but we splurged on a place steeped in history and Appalacian luxury. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: We were on the third floor --- likely a benefit as this is a historic building and the floors are sq...

My husband and I stayed here and wish we could have stayed longer. It is such a beautiful location. We booked the romance package and enjoyed sparking cider and roses in our room. The dinner was delicious . I would highly recommend this hotel .

just returned from a two night stay at the Boone Tavern Hotel...have never been made to feel as welcome as we did here...our room was spotless..the students who work here are very friendly and personable...had made reservations on line and check in was a breeze...will definitely stay here again if we are going to be in the area...would consider making Berea a destination by itself..keepp up the good work...
