“John Fitch Cottage Perfect for Us”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 19, 2012

The John Fitch Cottage had all the amenities we needed for our 3 night stay. All rooms are on one level, which is a benefit to anyone who needs assistance with stairs. Our hosts were gracious in answering our questions about Bardstown and its surroundings. The cottage was clean when we arrived, and was nicely refreshed when we returned each evening. Couldn't ask for more.

Room Tip: If you want a B&B to yourself, these cottages are a perfect fit.

We stayed in the John Fitch Cottage and found it exactly to our desires. The cottage was well maintained and tended, displaying a lot of charm yet modern amenities for being built in the 1800s. The hot tub in the backroom is spacious, warm and has nice touches like votive candles. Decor could be described as minimal--one small TV, modest and tasteful decorations. Bedroom contains a four-poster bed and two nightstands...no other distractions.

The owners maintain a low profile, cleaning up daily and leaving breakfast items in the fridge.
We used this cottage as the base for Bourbon Trail visits. It is very close to downtown, and we urge you to visit that as well. Our only recommendation--needs a luggage stand in the bedroom!

We stayed at the Colonels Cottage for one night as a family of four during a visit to Bardstown to see The Stephen Foster Story. After many nights in various hotels sharing a queen sofa bed in a suite, our boys were very pleased to have their own twin beds in the second bedroom. We parents were pleased to have privacy with our own room and bath. That said, do note the second and master bedroom share a closet, with doors which open on both sides...and the bedroom doors do not particularly "lock". That said, the accommodations are clean, lovely, and the quiet downtown location allows easy access to dinner, history, walking tours and peace. Both children and hubby were pleased with the wi-fi connection in the home and I enjoyed a soak in the garden tub. Do note that if you are a particularly tall traveler, the master bathroom is on the former rear (now renovated) porch and the beadboard ceiling is approximately six feet high! At 5'9", I had a tad over a hand before I would have been grazing the ceiling! Other than the potential height issue, the bathroom was clean and inviting. The second bath, though not as "inviting", was adequate as a second bath/shower and for the children. We would recommend the cottage to others and would stay here again!

A unique (for us) bed and breakfast experience. Rather than staying in a portion of a larger house, we had an entire cottage to ourselves. Breakfast items were placed in the kitchen each afternoon for the following morning. The Millstone Cottage (where we stayed) could also have slept two children in separate twin beds in an adjoining room. Large bath with whirlpool tub and separate shower. Everything was clean and in good working order. Proprietors were friendly and attentive but not intrusive.

My husband and I stayed at The Colonel's Cottage Inn - Pioneer Park in February. The Inn was the best part of our trip! Tastefully decorated, spotless and truly charming. The beds were comfortable and everything was lovely. We enjoyed our continental breakfast and the freedom of an un-hosted B&B. We are planning to stay at The Colonel's Cottage on our next trip to Bardstown and we will recommend this cozy little Inn to all of our friends.

Spending the best weekend of my life, my wedding, at the Colonel's cottage was perfect. The night before our vows, my bridesmaids and I stayed at the cottage. We very much enjoyed the backyard for chatting and the kitchen for late night snacks. The beds were very comfortable, and the bathroom roomy and accommodating. I much enjoyed the soak in the tub before we headed off to the church. After, we vowed to God to love each other forever, my husband and I returned to the cottage. I was so happy to see that the house was clean to perfection. I have very sweet memories of the cottage and hope to return one day soon. I am most grateful to our hosts, Margaret Sue and Michael Masters. This is a wonderful place to stay!

Just returned from a 2 week vacation across several states and had to comment on our stay at the Colonel's Cottages. The Millstone cottage became our very own 'Kentucky Home'! The Civil War era house was cozy, clean and very comfortable! The historic decorations and furniture captured our imagination of days gone by! We also did the Colonel's Bourbon tasting and dinner at the Chapeze House and enjoyed an awesome evening of fine genteel Kentucky living! We loved our time with the Colonel and Margaret Sue so much that we extended our stay! If you're tired of the 'same old run of the mill' lodging and want to enjoy some real Kentucky history and hospitality......definitely stay here!
