“Excellent get away”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2013

We booked on line from UK and booked 3 night 4 day package which is everything the web site promises. We actually only did one trip out on the second day as the first day of 3 venues-sultans palace, Merapi volcano and borobodur temple was exhausting. The trips out do not include entrance fees but these do not break the bank and help to preserve and construct the attractions. I wouldn't recommend Sultans Palace but we were taken to a Batik artist shop and shown how they do Batik which was interesting this was while we waited for the Palace to open. A driver from the hotel picked us up at the airport and all the drivers were excellent and were able to translate for us on our trips. The meals were good but after the 3 nights we had probably had what we fancied off the menu. Breakfast was either American breakfast or Indonesian but the omelettes were good. The pool area is idyllic and the gardens are beautifully kept. The staff are very attentive and helpful. The rooms if you pay the higher room fee are excellent. Rooms 1,2,3 and 4 are very close to the kitchen and dining room and I would imagine they could be noisy but we had rooms 5,6 and 7 and these were large double rooms, excellent a/c, very good shower rooms and lots of storage, there is also a quick turn around laundry service. The larger rooms also have a front terrace with table and chairs which are very private due to the clever planting of large plants. This is an extremely clean and well run small guest house only 20 minutes from the airport. I would recommend it and I would return.

Room Tip: Most expensive rooms are best 5, 6, 7 and 8

I had a few times here since 12 years ago. and all the facilities are getting better and better until now. but tradition, hospitality and comfort is still the same. This is the Rumah Mertua, a reflection of the real Jogja. Run by talented people but humble.

I loved Rumah Mertua. It's pretty much seems like a big compound that was converted from a house to a quaint, charming B&B. The staff was lovely, and you could sit by the pool all day and sip great mango shakes, tea and coffee.

I don't think it's too far from anything, really. If you don't mind the bit of time you have to give to get to some of the tourist spots, then this spot should be okay for you. It's a great, simple escape from the hustle and bustle!

If you want to visit Yogyakarta, it is better to book another hotel. Rumah Mertua is located a 40 minutes drive from the city. The rooms are clean, but noisy. Since breakfast is served outside you can hear people eating, laughing etc in the early morning and late evening. After 9 AM there are frequent power cuts in this village. The hotel has no generator. All services are expensive : food, drinks, laundry. Staff is very nice. The pool and garden are nice. The bathroom is for dwarfs. Conclusion : there are 1001 better places to stay if you want to visit Yogyakarta.

Just short review : Nice restaurant, small lobby but the AC was bad and the bed was not comfortable at all. The location is out of the town but the staff was extremely nice. Two thumbs up for the cleanliness.

Yogyakarta is quite a busy city - but if you stay at the Rumah Mertua (The Father in Law House), you will definately get a feeling of coming home after a stressful day out in the streets of Jogja. The hotel is located 6-7 km. away from the city centre, but it is easy (and cheap) to go there with a taxi or with the hotel car.

The staff are very friendly and polite - always trustworthy and willing to find the best solutions. The breakfast is truly delicious with small snacks, fresh fruit and great dishes (try the banana or pineapple pancakes). Tea and coffee is served for free during the day. The restaurant also serve fresh food the whole day - and we enjoyed every meal.

The pickup-service from the airport was excellent - and our tours to Prambanan and Borobudur was easilly being made with the hotel car.

The hotel has a nice pool, well-functioning AC and it's clean. If I had to write something negative, then I must say that the walls are thin and the bed could be a bit more comfortable. Even though - you will have a very good time at the Rumah Mertua.

Thank you very much for your hospitality and the warm welcome to Indonesia!

We are very happy with our stay in Rumah Mertua. We booked two rooms with Rumah Mertua (king and twin beds) with airport transfer and were very pleased at how smooth the bookings went.

The boutique bungalow hotel is very well maintained and had a nice garden and swimming pool.

Our two rooms (king and twin beds) and bathrooms were spacious and clean.

Staff at Rumah Mertua were friendly and attentive. We had booked a full day tour with the hotel and was very happy with our tour guide cum driver, Imam as well.

The hotel is about 20 mins by taxi to Malioboro, but we did not mind it because it is very quiet compared to staying near the main shopping street.

Overall, it was a pleasant and comfortable place to stay.
