“Fine accommodation and excellent service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2012

We enjoyed staying at Rumah Mertua. The rooms are clean and situated in a quite garden. The children liked the pool (clean and good size). The staff is friendly and helpful to arrange al kind of things (transport, hotels etc). Breakfast in the morning is fresh and always with an extra surprise. The only minus is that the hotel is a little far out of the city centre and you can't easily walk to some restaurants. On the other hand transport (taxi) is not expensive.

Perfect choice, really good price/value ratio.
A hotel with a nice atmosphere and outstanding service. Good looking, nicely furnished, wide and clean rooms with air conditioning (minibar, safe, TV).
Beautiful garden with a pool and sunbeds. A magical oasis.
Friendly, helpful staff. Delicious breakfast, good kitchen.
Airport transfer can be ordered from the hotel when booking. Programs, tours can be booked. The only disadvantage is, that is far away from the centre (taxi required). I could go back anytime. Even tomorrow!

Stayed one night at Rumah Mertua (= Parent in Law's House) to attend a wedding. Located in a quiet street 20 - 30 minute taxi ride from the airport (US$ 3-4), Rumah Mertua has 11 rooms within a small complex with lushy greeneries and a swimming pool in the middle. The architecture is a nice combination of traditional Javanese and modern. It was clean, cozy; staff friendly and provided good service. Guests can rent its operational car when not in use at a reasonable price - driver and petrol included. Didn't have the free breakfast but the "gado-gado" (mixed veggies with peanut butter sauce) I had for lunch was a bit plain. If you're sensitive to mosquitoes, the restaurant/lounge area (with darkish wood furnitures and plants) may have some. Tried the head & shoulder massage (there's a spa at the hotel) and enjoyed it. Was told by the staff that most of the guests come from Europe.

great value - well managed!

if you intend to stay in tourist streets in the center all the time - this is not the place to be be.

If you want to see the sites around the city - a very good choice -> Much better than many 5 star hotels!

This small hotel, only 11 rooms, has a delightful ambience. The rooms are basic, spotlessly clean with a comfortable bed and are more than adequate. The trees and plants in the courtyard surrounding the small pool make for a very relaxing environment. The staff are friendly and efficient - they even made me breakfast a 5:00am for an early departure for the airport. The included breakfast includes, fruit, cooked main (like pancakes or nasi goring), cakes, fresh juice and tea or coffee - a great start to the day.
Overall, highly recommended!

The name of the place means it is in-laws place. The name fits very well. What an amazing hotel
Nice pool, great breakfast and a wonderful staff. The rooms are quite big and comfortable.
Taxi from Malioboro costs only 3 or 4 $.

Of the many fantastic boutique hotels in Yogya, this is one of the best! (I admit, however, that I have only seen 5-6 of the other ones :))
It has true, warm hospitality, coupled with the typical quietness and reservedness of the staff. The staff, however, is fantastic and is always up for a chat.
Food is outstanding, especially the (included) breakfast is way above everything else you normally get in similar hotels.
The garden and swimming pool is lovely. Interior decoration is beautiful and a good sample of Javanese art.
Rooms are great. Clean, tastefully furnished, spacious. However, I stayed in a "standard room" which has the disadvantage of being right next to restaurant area and kitchen and, therefore, is not really quiet. This will not be a problem if you rise early (and thus will not be bothered by the kitchen works in preparation of breakfast) and sleep late (and thus the late-diners will not disturb you).
