“Excellent value for money”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2013

I stayed at he Candlewood in Salina for four nights while taking care of business. The hotel is back out of the busy thoroughfare traffic and it's quiet. The front desk staff was nice and very efficient. They greeted me by name and made me feel like family. The free laundry was a really nice thought. Everything one could need is close by, groceries, restaurants, even a Goodwill Store is next door. I will look forward to staying there on my next trip to Salina. One could not ask for a nicer, better placed place to stay and the value you receive for the money you spend is way beyond expectations.

Room Tip: Ask for an upper story room facing the main parking lot for a quieter stay.

We stayed at the Salina Candlewood on our way to Dodge City. Front desk staff very friendly. We had a ground floor room with a queen bed. There was road noise all night from the adjacent interstate I-135. You would not have guessed this by pulling up to the property - it seems pretty isolated.
Also, the bathroom door opened into the bathroom at such an odd angle that my wife and I had do a "dance" anytime we both tried to use the sink. Very easy to get our luggage in/outof the property due to the ramp into the parking lot at the rear. As with all Candlewoods, only one wastecan in the room. Room AC was adequate for the hot, humid weather - it was set for 58 degrees when we checked in - actually had to turn the heat on for a few minutes!
Plenty of eating places, grocery stores, gas stations and a huge Menards close by.

Room Tip: Road noise from agjacent interstate on rear facing (odd numbered) rooms.

Thank you for your review. Our hotel is conveniently located in the southern half of Salina, near many eating places and shopping centers. As with all the hotels in this area, we are located near I-135. If you find you are a light sleeper, just ask for an even numbered room and we will definitely do our best to accommodate your request. We have also passed along your comments to the Candlewood Design Team. For your future stays with Candlewood Suites, either at our location or across the nation, there are additional trash cans located under the bathroom sink and the kitchen sink for your convenience. Thank you and we look forward to your next stay in Salina.

Terrific stay.

The front desk called our room about 30 minutes after we checked in, to make sure everything was as expected. We really appreciated that, as well as the coin-free guest laundromat (yes, it's free), and the availability of snacks and other items on the "honor system," whereby you select what you want, fill out a checklist, and deposit it in a box for it to be added to your bill. (I really hope folks don't take advantage of that, as it is a wonderful service).

The full kitchen -- complete with dishes, cookware, oven, stove, microwave and full sized fridge -- was wonderful. Since Salina was a "stopover" for us (we have no family or friends in that area) en route to South Dakota, we loved the ability to go grocery shopping at one of the many supermarkets nearby, buy some dinner, and retire to our spacious room for the night.

For premium TV hounds: They have HBO (no Showtime or Starz, etc.). But that was fine with us.

The only "cons" we could think of were due to the potential for extended stays in this hotel:

1. Insufficient waste receptacles. One small wastebasket in the room with an ill-fitting plastic bag liner that kept falling off, into the can. (One basket in the bathroom as well, and a tiny one affixed to the inside of a kitchen cupboard door.)
2. Insufficient rolling carts available for hauling luggage. It's a long trek from the parking lot to the elevator, and if you're doing an extended stay, that's a ton of trips.

Even with the "cons," it's a beautifully-maintained place, and if we go through Salina again, I know exactly where we'll stay. And for slightly above $100 for a one-night booking, you could pay a lot more at other places, and get a lot less for your money. We really enjoyed it.

Room Tip: We stayed nearby the elevator and didn't notice any annoying noise.

Thank you for your very thorough review. We are glad to offer our free laundry and food area on the “honor system.” Here at Candlewood Suites, we want our guests to experience a “home away from home” feeling, so everything we do is centered around that. Our kitchens in the rooms, are also designed to contain everything you need for any length of stay.

If you or any guest needs anything else, like the trash taken out more often, or need more luggage carts, any of our team member would be happy to assist at any time.

Thank you again, and we trust we will see you next time you are in the Salina area.

This was our second stay with candle wood suites and once a gain we were quite pleased. The hotel was right next door to a grocery store which made it very handy. The workout room was quite nice and the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The room was quite spacious, and the window even opened. The only negative was that thr bathroom counter was pretty non-existent.

Thank you for your review on your recent stay. I am happy to hear you enjoyed your time with us. Concerning the bathroom counter, it appears the room you stayed in was a room designed to meet the ADA requirements, otherwise in all our standard suits, (non ADA rooms) the bathroom counter is much larger. We apologize for the inconvenience, and hope to see you next time you are in Salina.

We stayed on a one night visit to Kansas and picked the handicap accessible room because it was the only one that was listed online with two queen beds (this was with only 8 hours advance notice). I was surprised it was on the 2nd floor but there is an elevator. The room was large but angled weird as the beds were facing each other foot to foot. This made watching TV from one of the beds awkward. The kitchen area had a full size fridge, stove, sink and microwave. The accessible bathroom included a roll-in shower and no counter due to the chair accessible sink.
The front desk clerk gal was very nice and friendly upon check in and since we were a priority club member, she also gave us two bottled waters with some chocolate bars and if we would've opened them up sooner, we could've used the free soda/pop coupons that were tucked in there but went unnoticed until we left. We told her we were in town to pick up a pet pig and she didn't blink an eye nor charge us extra nor make any rude comments regarding pets so I thought that was great. We even stopped back down at the desk to show her the pig after we picked it up. When asked for a place to eat, she gave us coupons for a local steakhouse They do not have free breakfast-only coffee. There is a mini-convenience store in the laundry room with the coffee, but it sort of looks like you pay on the honor system.
We did not try out the pool and the online reservation system said the hot tub was not working so we didn't bother even looking for it.

Thank you for staying at the Candlewood Suites -Salina property. We are glad you decided to choose us for your pet friendly stay. We strive to make your stay a home away from home, so it is great to hear our front desk was able to take care of you. Sorry for the misunderstanding about the pool and hot tub, we do not have either at this location. Thanks again for staying. We hope to see you next time you are in the Salina area.

I was directed to stay here since it is affiliated with the corporate rate I needed while working in Salina, however, even if not recommended this hotel is highly recommended.
The property is well maintained, housekeeping is excellent, the staff was gracious and the location is ideal for a business traveler. I am very concerned about cleanliness and this was a very well prepared hotel. They even offered some DVDs at the front desk!
