“Just Fine!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2013

We never would have stayed in this motel had we not read reviews ahead of time. However, we were simply looking for a night's rest while traveling through so made a reservation. Best Inn proved to be a great pick. The area is "industrial" but not scary. The staff was friendly. As previous reviewers have said, this place is CLEAN. The bed was comfortable. There is plenty of room for luggage. Bathroom was completely adequate and again clean. There is a microwave and good-sized frig. The TV is decent. AC was fine. Okay, the furniture is not beautiful, but it's clean and serviceable. The room could have better lighting; there are no lamps, only a light in the center of the room. Amenities are few. However, if you're looking for a decent place to get a good night's sleep, this place fits the bill. And the price . . . who can argue with that!

Good: PRICE! Seriously . . . when was the last time you paid $35 for a room that didn't involve sharing with smelly backpackers and possibly a moose? The owner couldn't be nicer - when he said "Let me know if there is anything else I can do for you" it was clear he was sincere. The room was very clean (not clean for $35 . . . just plain clean). The A/C is very effective and not terribly noisy. The room was quiet - slept the night through without needing ear plugs. There's a medium-sized fridge, a microwave and reasonable flat-screen TV. Plenty of drawer space, too.

I can't rate this motel higher, however, because despite the cost it was missing certain basics one might expect at any price, which leads me to. . . the bad: As other reviewers have mentioned, there is one light in the bedroom . . . without a lamp shade . . . which is painful to the eyes and useless if you want to read before bed (or need to get up in the night). That fridge, microwave and TV that were a plus? They're taking up the only electrical outlet in the bedroom (and they need to use a power strip with a fuse rather than just a multi-plug socket). The only other outlet is in the bathroom . . . next to the toilet. Need to charge your phone or tablet? Yep. That's where you have to go. There was a wall desk with chair in our room - that would have been a good place for a socket. The shower stall doesn't have any little shelves for soap or shampoo. So you either put it on the floor (ugh) or walk from the stall to the sink (across the bathroom) to swap out soap and shampoo. And the floor of the shower is sloped and a little slick - a dangerous combo if you have to traipse back and forth for your soap and shampoo.

Note: One or two reviews mentioned that the motel is "on the wrong side of the tracks" or "in the bad part of town." I don't know where those reviewers are from, but that seems overly judgmental. The motel isn't with the motels right off the interstate, but the neighborhood certainly didn't strike me as dangerous or run down - your basic strip malls and light industrial buildings. And it is just a very short drive from either I-70 or I-135. But that does bring me to . . .

the ugly: The facade is clean, but not impressive - but what do you expect for $35? The room is clean, but ours was painted beige on three walls and, well, ahem, how to explain . . . cow patty brown on the fourth . . . the one the bed faces. The dresser was black with gold trim . . . and the bed had a matching headboard with a mirror. I felt like I was in a low-rent scene from Scarface.

Summary: I wrote this review so the adventurous (and budget minded) amongst you would know what you're getting into - not to dissuade potential customers. This place was fine for a single night. It would be fine for several nights if the price is really right for you. I wish them the best - the owner really was a nice guy. Add at least one socket by the bed, a shade on the ceiling light, and a shelf in the bathroom . . . I would upgrade my rating to Above Average. If those things don't bother you, then call to make your reservation today!

We tried this place based on the Trip Advisor reviews, but were disappointed. They didn't have any double rooms, so we had to pay for two adjoining rooms, both fairly small, but with refrigerator/freezers and microwave ovens. The motel is very clean and recently renovated, tastefully, but they missed some important details. For instance, there are no lamps in either room. The only source of light in either room is a VERY bright, migraine inducing overhead bulb, uncovered, that makes one feel as if they are being interrogated. I tried to call down to the office to request a lamp, but neither room has a telephone. I know land lines are going the way of the dinosaur, but that seems like a basic amenity. When I walked down to the office to request a lamp, I was told they did not have any because there weren't outlets for them. They did eventually go buy a lamp for my room, which I appreciated, but by that time I was thoroughly annoyed and wondering whether I should have stayed across the street instead.

It does get pretty hot in Kansas which I was glad that the AC works very well. The bed was really nice and comfortable. The room was clean. One of the things that I liked about the room was the TV remote. It was really easy to find because of the size of that big remote. The staff are very friendly and accommodating.

I chose to stay here before my trip to Lindsborg. The queen room is spacious enough for one single person, everything looks clean and neat, though there is a little weird fragrant smell. The staff is friendly and helpful. It's not the cheapest but probably the best value for budgeted travellers! It is very close to the highway and other locations in the town which makes it great.

Stayed in this little inn for a few nights... really cheap rates and not too far from many things in Salina. Saw reviews on this motel, but didn't have any of the issues they mentioned, perhaps they were doing maintanence on a room or something? We found our stay to be great! No problems, the rooms were well kept!
