“Great BBQ, Service and Atmosphere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2012

This is our favorite BBQ even over Jack Stack and Hayward's. It is in an old historic bank building. The restrooms are where the vault used to be I think. They also have a train car on the side of the building and the kids like to eat in that part. In good weather, you can walk around in back to see the flower garden.

“Great BBQ & homemade bread!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2012 via mobile

If you've been at the lake, it's a must to stop in at this historic bank building for great BBQ on homemade bread and sides. Large selection of beer and beverages. Check out the train caboose for dining as well. Worth the drive but only open weekends.

“Where locals in the know go”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2012 via mobile

When people think of Kansas City, the first thing that comes to mind for many is Bar-B-Q. Visitors flock to the big name places, most of those places in my opinion are just okay. They rely a lot on tourism in some cases and just arm't really that outstanding. Sure, if you are from New Jersey they are great! But Kansas Citians are privileged to some REALLY find Que and the best of it won't be found at those big name, famous old joints. For the very best, one needs to venture away from downtown. One of the very best and a well guarded secret is the Hillsdale Bank BBQ in tiny Hillsdale, Kansas. If you are visiting Overland Park, Gardner or Olathe you are not that far away. I won't go into detail about the food, other than to say that you will be enjoying the real thing in a really cool setting. This is the place you will find yourself emailing photos of the place back home and you will come again the next time you are in town for the food. Because I go there a lot, I thought I would share some information that others might not know or touch on? First and most importantly you need to know that The Hillsdale Bank BBQ isn't open year around or every day of the week. You should call just to make sure it is open. I think they are open from early March till about December? They are also only open on weekends. I think, Friday - Sunday. maybe Thursday too? I just can't remember. Another thing to know is that there is a wonderful secret garden behind the place that even most regulars don't know exist. Should it be a really beautifully day when you are there, asked to be seated in the garden. You will probably have it all to yourself. Also, a little known fact is that they sell maybe the best pizza you have ever had from there specially built wood fired oven. I know that the pizza. Is only available on Saturday ans Sunday evenings after 5pm because it takes all day to get the oven up to temperature. Other than that, just go see and explore this great place for yourself. The owners are always on site and I think that makes a huge difference and they really appreciate your business. Also...one of the last remaining old time county beer joints is just across the railroad tracks. The Hillsdale Tavern. I've actually seen a horse tied out front. Enjoy Hillsdale!

“Worth a big detour !”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2011

Out of the way, but a wonderful addition to the Hillsdale Lake area. They need more space, so added a real cabose for extra room. The BBQ aroma will make you hungry. ONLY OPEN WEEKENDS. The main dining room is actually the old bank lobby. They must have raided lots of cutsie antique stores to decorate the place.
