“Great room and service for the price. We will be back!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2010

My wife and I come to Overland Park every 2 months to attend a local theatre. We have been staying in various hotels (checking them out and taking advantage of good deals). We think we might have found our regular place. The staff was great, room service was excellent, and even the breakfast chefs were friendly and outgoing. They help start your day with a smile. I had made our reservations over the net so we got an incredible rate but we were assigned a corner king suite and it was huge! We will be back.

The Ebassy Hotels are suppose to be nice places to stay, but it was obvious that this hotel does not live up to it's name. It looks nice, but has problems. Went there to have Xmas w/ family and the pool was closed. Lots of kids in the hotel were unhappy. This was not told to us ahead of time or posted on the web site. They gave us a free movie to watch in our room to make up for the closed pool. First room we went to was freezing. The thermo was broke. Next room was fine. Two elevators in hotel. One was broke. Only one bartender during happy hour. Had to wait in line each time for a drink. Breakfast was not impressive at all. They ran out of everything and it was hard to find a server to assit you. Needed milk for my kid's cereal and they were all out. What food they had was cold. It's obvious they are trying to cut corners to save money. Batterys in our remote for the TV were dead. I will say, our bed was comfy. I've stayed at a few Ebassy's and this one got a D. Would not stay there again.

We had a pretty good time at this nicely renovated hotel. The room was clean and had a microwave, minifridge and sink in the living area. There were two smallish wide-screen TVs, and the channel lineup reflected HD state of the art three years ago. For example, it included the Discovery HD Theater channel, but not the Discovery Network, even in standard definition.

The breakfast was magnificent, as is typical for Embassy Suites. We were told at check-in that we'd have to show our room key, but the breakfast folks never checked. Made-to-order omelets, breakfast meats, and a wide variety of extras, plus lots of well-cleaned tables to sit and eat. If you bundle in the cost of a full breakfast somewhere else, the room rate starts looking better.

Which is important when you hit the wireless internet access fees. It's $10 per day per device. So if you have two laptops and two iPhones, it would cost $40 to get them all on the network. Not a good thing.

The location, as part of the hotel cluster around I-435 and Metcalf, is great if you're visiting anywhere in the south side of the KC metro area.

If the prices were equal, I think I'd rather stay at the Drury Inn across the highway from here. But except for the internet fees, there's nothing wrong with this Embassy Suites.

The good:
-large room, nice decor and layout, comfortable bed
-nice lobby and atrium decor
-free hot breakfast, free pop, free drink hour
-friendly staff
The bad:
-far from KC; took forever to get anywhere
-pool was small and outdated; 5 people would be crowded in it; tiles have probably been there since the 80's
-Bar in the atrium outside our room was loud at night
The ugly:
-room smelled like my brother's feet
-asked for a high chair and never got one
-complained about neighbors fighting at 2am with no results, fight continued for hours until they started "making up" even louder than the arguing
-$10 a day for internet access; have never had to pay for it anywhere else, felt like the fee was exorbitant

We did stay there for 5 days. This allowed everything that annoyed us about the place plenty of time to fester. The hotel was nice. The fighting neighbors incident took place on our last night which left a lasting impression.

We booked the king suite and this room was beautiful. It has been nicely remodeled. It was very relaxing. The bed was so comfortable that we slept better than we had in years. The breakfast was also very good. Better than I had expected. This was the perfect place for a weekend get-a-way! We highly recommend it. I know that we will be returning for many years to come.

The last time I visited this hotel it was in the midst of renovations and only one elevator worked.

Now that it is renovated, it is much nicer. I can't say I agree with the new look but at least both elevators work fine.

I have stayed here a few times and it is perfectly fine. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. They generally have a happy hour and complimentary breakfast.

Every room is a suite and they have a lot of the little things done right to appeal to business travelers. There is a desk/table on wheels with two chairs and a wheeled office chair. The table lamp has two power outlets for easy access.

There are two flat-screen TVs - one in the bedroom and one in the living room.

Giant room. Helpful staff at the front desk. Only drawback to the room was its dated look.
