In all our years living in KC, neither Hubby nor I had passed thru these portals. What a "shame on us"!
Having purchased a gift certificate at a charity auction, we arrived on a Friday, not too long after they opened at 4pm. Upon entering, we were greeted by the Hostess. We informed her that we would stay for dinner, somewhat later, but that we would first like to spend awhile in the bar with cocktails and appetizers. But...Hostess insisted that we give her a seating time before she permitted us to head to the bar.
Happy hour in the luxurious darkened bar, we sat at the bar, where we enjoyed a cocktail and perfect oysters on the half shell, served by amazing bartender Tim. He has obviously been well-schooled in his profession!
When ready to be seated for dinner, we again approached the reception desk, somewhat near our "appointed hour".
The dining room was virtually wide open at this time of day, however, arriving at our assigned table, and wanting to share a romantic dinner, we were dismayed that we were closely surrounded on all sides by other early diners. I requested a more private booth, which apparently had to be first authorized by the hostess. As we all tromped back to the reception desk, and stood in front of Hostess, feeling like reprimanded school children, Hostess Kelly was quite brusque as she informed us that she would be seating other diners around us no matter where she seated us! Huh? I was shocked at her poor customer service attitude! However, not to be denied what we considered to be a reasonable request, I persisted until she "ungraciously" relocated us to another section. Our confrontation(s) with Hostess Kelly, who we feel not only overstepped the boundaries of her position, but who was rather rude as she did so, was the only blight on this otherwise perfect dining experience.
All was wonderful from this point on. Our attentive and entertaining server Kenny attended our every need and offered recommendations, as he allowed us ample time to study the menu, and to just hang a bit with our exquisite wine.
We both ordered filet combos, Hubby's paired with a crab cake, mine with seared scallops. Our dinners were both accompanied with 2 sides. Our wood-grilled steaks were perfectly prepared. My lobster risotto side was scrumptious, as were the crisp smoked asparagus spears. Our lemon pound-cake strawberry shortcake topped off a fabulous dinner.
(Oh, and by the way, regardless of the time we dawdled, other diners weren't seated in our section until we were well into our entrees!)
We certainly won't wait long to return!!
