We're pretty loyal Marriott fans, plus we've stayed in this Marriott before (a memorable A+ experience), but this visit was not memorable in the way we'd like it and not up to Marriott's standards. Granted, it was the Thanksgiving weekend, but because of that, we'd expect the staff to 'be ready' and 'well-versed on the special restaurant hours' etc. Our room was typical Marriott - nice bedding, average bathroome etc. But I'm not confident the shower had been cleaned from the prior guest. There were no extra towels, and the ones provided were not plush, and there is no towel rack for your hand towel, ... but the most annoying thing was there was only one bar of soap for the entire bath - even on day 2 we still only had our opened single bar of soap. I'll give the maid staff a break, it was the holiday after all. We were very disappointed in the surliness of the Epicure restaurant managers both mornings. (Our wait staff on Thanksgiving morning were top notch!). When checking in to our "breakfast included" room, we were told that breakfast was from 7 to noon. Oops - those hours were only for the holiday, and Friday was 'normal business hours', which we discovered when we arrived at 10 on Friday for our breakfast. The male manager did not greet us with hello, but with a snapped "we're closed for lunch", but then allowed us to grab some food as they were still cleaning up the buffet. He directed us to "sit right here", set some water without ice on the table, and we were scurried through the buffet under the watchful eye of a non-friendly female manager. No one offered coffee, juice, etc - yes, it was a tad late but we weren't really causing them any trouble. As for other traveler's comments re access to the pool, we found taking the elevator to the second floor and walking across the mezzanine was less uncomfortable than walking through the lobby. But - damn, they lock the stairs door so you can't get back to the second floor !!?? Come on Marriott, lock the stairs door on the second floor or put in an access keypad! Help your guests be comfortable and discreet in their near-nakedness. Overall, this Marriott might be fine if you are a business traveler during normal non-holiday times, but we were not impressed.
