We just returned from a quick weekend getaway. One stop was the Prairie Band Casino & Resort in Mayetta, KS.. We were greeted warmly upon arrival and found our room to be very comfortable. The bed was comfortable and the room very clean. The bathroom was huge and the shower magnificent. We requested a non-smoking room and the only available was a handicapped - which we accepted only on the condition that no one needing it was turned away. We were assured they had another, and thanked us for caring.
The casino had a nightly special running and with a players card, we were given a huge tub of popcorn and entered into their nightly drawings. Unfortunately, we didn't win the drawings but had a great time playing roulette. The people were all very friendly. The only drawback was they had two roulette tables but they shared one wheel. This was cause for lots of waiting, since one table had lots of high rollers playing. The pit boss finally upped the limit on the busy table and so the game moved at a better pace after that.
The casino was full but not crowded, like some. You could easily find room to play whatever you chose to play. A little smokey but again, not as bad as some.
We would recommend the Prairie Band Casino & Resort to anyone who wants a relaxing weekend out.

I frequent Prairie Band Casino near Mayetta, KS quite often and find it a wonderful atmosphere-- a place I enjoy spending my spare time. We have stayed over in the Hotel and the rooms were well above average. We have attended several conferences at this Casino and we will doing it again. Their Buffet is always good and the Resturant is wonderful.

We had received coupons in the mail for a free room and then later received coupons for free buffet so we decided to take a trip to PBC. It's been a couple of years since we last visited; last time it was still Harrahs. Funds are a little tight so we won't be taking a BIG vacation trip this year - so we brought the kids along with us since Topeka and Kansas City are reasonably close.

We were terribly disappointed right at check-in! The woman at the registration desk was friendly and pleasant, and there was another younger woman in a suit standing by smiling. The woman at the desk sort of made a joke about our reservation for TWO beds - then looked at my husband and said, "He's pretty tall, so I guess you need the extra bed!" I laughed and said, "We brought the kids with us too!"

Wow! The mood changed in an instant! She suddenly stopped smiling and handed me a post-it note saying, " I'll need you to write down their names and ages." In the meantime, the younger woman in the suit had entirely stopped even pretending to be friendly and looked on sourly from that point on!

As I wrote the kids names/ages, the woman began reciting that children under age 14 are not allowed in the hot tubs - even with parents! We expressed surprise and wondered why? She chose her words carefully - looking uncomfortable - probably because the younger woman was monitoring the entire conversation with a hostile expression on her face. The older woman said, "It's the policy. The company feels the hot tubs aren't safe for young children." We were surprised and said, "So even though every other hotel in the world allows kids, here it's not safe?" She nodded and said that was the policy.

Our kids were disappointed. The hot tubs were virtually empty during our stay and they could have easily gone down for a quick dip before bed. Further, there was no on-site arcade or any kid-friendly area of any kind at PBC. Not even a candy-bar machine! One of their security guards was quick to take a step out to wave at my son, warning him to stay with us when he went about 10-ft away to peek out into the patio area! Clearly, they don't want kids around, and that's THAT!

We ended up driving into Topeka to shop and bought the kids some games and treats so we could hang out in the room. The next day, we went to Kansas City to the AMERISTAR CASINO, which features many family friendly amenities, including Kid Zone for younger kids, an Arcade for older kids, ice cream store, Burger King on-site, a movie theatre, and several family friendly restaurants. We had a great day at the AMERISTAR, then went back to PBC to huddle like criminals in our free room. Whoopee!

The room was fairly nice. The carpet was very stained and well-used, but looked vacuumed and as clean as they could get it. The bathtub was large and comfortable so we bought some bubble bath for the kids to use as their "private hot tub." There was a mini-fridge and coffee pot, but no microwave oven.

All-in-all, I think PBC caters to the 50 and older crowd. If you are 21-40s with children - go somewhere else! FAMILIES AND KIDS ARE UNWELCOME here. And Come ON! Don't give us the line about hot tubs being unsafe. Of course you can't have kids in them for hours, but a 10-15 minute dip is not unsafe for healthy people. For us, it would have been less offensive if they had just come right out and said, "Kids not Allowed" and dealt with that policy - not the inference that we are trying to harm our kids with hazardous hot tubs! Don't try to act like you're parenting our children for their own good.

For our money, a free room is just not worth the time and expense it takes to commute to places which welcome our entire family - and especially our kids. We want to have fun when we have an opportunity to get away from home. We want to stick together sometimes and if it's available, we enjoy being able to split into adult and children activities when it is safely and economically possible.

Next trip: We're heading to AMERISTAR!

  • Liked — Pretty view of inaccessible patio and hot tubs. Nice, large bathtub.
  • Disliked — Families Not Welcome. Impossible to log onto wireless internet service. Terrible!

Well, where to start, I stayed here a couple times when Harrah's was managing this place. Had a good time, very god service, Good atmosphere, all remodeled rooms, was very nice.
I could play dollar slots for quite a long time on a few hundred bucks and ocasionaly hit a hand pay for $1200 - $2500. which always made it worth while. I had complained about no mixed drinks, and one of the casino hosts told me the reservation that owned the casino wouldnt allow hard alcahol. So because of this, I went to other casinos in stead on most trips.

I returned and found that Harrah's no longer managed the place. Not a biggie I thought.

Well, front desk staff really wasnt very friendly or helpfull. Traffic in the casino was really low, not as much fun. A busy casino is always a lot more fun because you can see people hitting jack pots. This time, it was very slow. The food was tolerable, but nothing to brag on for sure. The wait staff just like the hotel staff didnt seem to really care if they were there or not. They Were not rude, but not real friendly or helpfull.

Same on the casino floor, casino hosts seemed a little distant at most times. Would ask if you needed anything if you looked around for them, or made eye contact but otherwise didnt seem to be around much. Seemed under staffed.

I went through $3500.00 in dollar slots and never hit a hand pay. I have never had this happen ever! I go to casinos 7-10 times a year, and never had this bad of luck.

All in all, it isnt a bad casino, but it sure is a lot to be desired, and nothing near what it was as a Harrah's. Not as friendly, not as helpfull, not as well staffed, and definatly a lot tighter slots!

My husband and I were at prairie band on Mar.18-20 2008. We have been there many times before when it was still under Harrah's, and had no problems at all. Now that Harrahs is no longer involved it is horrible. A brick would have more personality than the front desk staff. Rude, unhelpful, uncaring, we felt as if they couldn't wait to get rid of us. Did I mention incompetant, our credit card was charged twice, when I called to get it fixed I got passed off to person after person and this is still not resolved. Our room service orders were either wrong or imcomplete, and we were charged extra when they were fixed. The casino is so short handed be prepared to fight to play any of the table games, and if you do manage to get a seat at one of them don't say anything about it or be prepared to have a very rude dealer. We will never ever go back.

I am strictly a craps plyr. Easy access to cash through echecks.
They are somewhat anal in not opening a second craps table.
They have enoughbusiness to keep two tables going most of the
time. Should have 2 tables going 1st/2nd shifts. Played machines though a 2 day period, pretty tight, leftover attitude from
Harrah's?? Rooms were great and overall staff friendly and helpful. I stop every two weeks. Would stop every week but the
limit amount of checks you can write to a ten day period instead ofa week or on pers. basis. COMPS on your players card are
good and can be used in the building or to buy gas at store.
No buy in limits or stop losses like Mo. why go to Mo. when this place is as good as it gets short of traveling to vegas or tunica.
Dr. Dice says good luck at the tables. (enjoy talking to gamers:
