We spent two nights at the Aloft Leawood. It was the hotel for family and friends for a wedding we attended in the Kansas City area. After reading the other reviews on the property, I knew that the main desk would be on the second floor of the facility and that parking would be in a nearby ramp.
We arrived at the hotel at about 11:00 PM. The staff was friendly and informed us of some specials going on for rewards members (we are rewards members for the hotel chain, but this was the first time in an Aloft property). The hotel does have about 5 parking spots in front of the hotel and we were lucky to snag one of those that evening. We took our bags up to our room. Be prepared, the rooms are very efficient in their design, think cruise ship efficiency.
We opened the door to find a very stylish Kohler sink and vanity to the right with a sliding door to the toilet and glass shower area. This area also had an area to hang up your clothes, a few shelves, an in room safe, coffee maker, complementary bottled water and assorted teas and coffee. The bedroom area had a very comfortable king sized bed, small desk and large flat panel tv on the wall. Under the tv was a padded bench. Not too much floor space if you had lots of luggage. With the two of us there for a wedding and only two nights we did not have a lot of luggage. For some attending the wedding I believe they would have liked larger rooms. After settling in we went down to the bar and enjoyed a tap beer. The prices were very good, two taps for $6.00. We were surprised that the bar was not open mid-day on a Saturday. We had several hours between the wedding and the reception to kill. I would have been happy to buy wine or beer at the bar, but we ended up on the patio with a pot luck of wine, cheese and crackers others also there for the wedding had found.
We did not have a chance to use the pool, but they have a spectacular pool on the main level of the building. We did park in the parking ramp on Saturday afternoon and Saturday evening. We did not find it to be as big of a hassle as other reviews indicated. We did not notice an elevator at the ramp, and that could be a concern for some. When we checked out on Sunday my husband went and got the car while I waited with the luggage.
I had issues with my room keys working. My husband never did. I ended up at the desk often to get new keys, only to find they wouldn't work again. Others in our party had issues as well. I think my cell phone may have caused the keys to become unusable. I was carrying my phone in a small purse, along with the key card and an iPod touch. My husband had no electronics on him and his key always worked. Not a big issue as we were going to be together all of the time, but I have never experienced this issue with key cards before.
