“A Real Treasure”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2014

In planning my cross-country road trip, I stumbled upon this gem and was so intrigued with the town's story (from tornado devastation to sustainable new life) that I decided I had to stop for a night and stay in this Eco-friendly lodging. I was not disappointed. I arrived to check in and was delighted to meet my very welcoming hosts. I was given a tour of the home, and then left on my own.The staff works out of the house from 9-5 daily, so I had the whole place to myself for the night. The house is beautiful and inspiring - from organic mattress and pillows to community garden in back. The next morning I was given a tour of the county school, and a quick look at the rest of town. Also be sure to visit The Big Well (the world's largest hand dug well) - right across the street. Lots of history. If you don't know about Greensburg, make time for a stop next time you visit Kansas.

The Silo Eco-Home exceeded my expectations. Ruth Ann was friendly and informative for beginning to end. She is passionate about Greensburg and how Greensburg has become Greensburg GreenTown and eager to share information about the Silo Eco-Home, Greensburg, ways to go green, and even the surrounding area.

The Silo-Eco Home is the visitor center and offices of the not-for-profit organization Greensburg GreenTown. In the home, which is also the first in the chain of Eco-Homes, there is 1 guest room (which is basically 1/3 of the ground floor). The room is well appointed and includes a very comfortable bed and an awesome shower.

There are some great perks with staying in the Silo-Eco Home. You have access to so many DVDs, books, and literature about Greensburg and going green. After hours of the organization Greensburg GreenTown, you have access to the whole house which includes a full-kitchen, computer if needed, and even the rooftop deck.

While in Greensburg, be sure to take time to take in the town and the accomplishments of the people of Greensburg. Staying at the Silo Eco-Home makes it very easy to do so as almost everything is in easy walking distance. Also be sure to check out The Big Well (the world's largest hand dug well) - that might not sound like much until you actually see it and it is just catty-corner from the Silo Eco-Home. I highly recommend staying in the Silo Eco-Home and visiting Greensburg.

Room Tip: There is only one room, but it is a very nice room with an entrance gained through the home as well...
