The Cross Keys has had mixed fortune over the last few years, change of management, several tries to revive it, and a spell when it was closed. Now re-opened, new owners, a bit of a facelift, and great food! So many locals have recommended this place over the last few months, we gave it a try for Sunday Lunch and we were delighted with the whole experience. The interior is now clean and inviting, simply decorated and furnished, we had a warm welcome and good service from the start. The owner told us that everything is made in house, even the bread.
The menu was imaginative and delivered on quality, taste and presentation. I thought it was good value too for what is on offer. The staff were friendly and efficient.
I'm going to mention a couple of little things which let it down ever so slightly. We weren't shown to our table, it was pointed out to us from the bar - ok, but could be better. No one offered the wine list, I had to get up and ask. Finally, the owner, who is obviously the front of house, stationed herself at the bar area when she wasn't serving. From there, she has her back to most of the tables, which didn't look professional. However, all of the time she was dealing with customers I have to say she was cheery and informative. Tiny criticisms but the rest of the experience was so enjoyable, and I will definitely be back for lunch or dinner again. I really hope the place flourishes as there is little of this quality nearby.
