The best fried chicken ever - so crisp and moist. Wish I could eat more and I tried so hard. It is not quick and takes strategic planning to avoid the long waits (5:00 arrival works on Friday dinner - decide what's important to you - go early or wait for a table). They have 3 kinds of Boulevard on tap while you wait. $16 for 3-piece dinner. Includes soup or salad and the lightest, fluffiest mashed potatoes, chicken gravy and green beans (NOT vegetarian!). I hardly left room for one yummy cinnamon roll (want more, more, more). They bring refills of your sides and then bring take-out containers so you can stuff it all into your fridge (then your brother-in-law swoops in and scarfs the leftovers before you can even think about eating again!! "I heard they have good rolls", he said. Humbug) Honestly, last time I went out to a chain place, it was in this price range, so I don't understand complaints about the price for a FULL meal with extra side helpings and dessert. The chicken is not spiced up a la KFC or Popeye's. It is pan-fried, crispy/crunchy and moist inside. Add your own salt and pepper or hot sauce if you need to. All of the waitresses were very friendly and did not make us pay for our 5-year old. She nibbled off Grandma's plate for free. The child's menu is about $10 and is suited for a big-eating tweener rather than a 5-year old. I try to go to Stroud's every time I get back home to KC. This relatively new location is in boring suburbia, but then again, under the bridge at Troost was small and dark and I don't mind a level floor and safe, off-street parking. Next time I want the chicken fried steak!
