“Excellent value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 5, 2014

We(3adults) recently stayed for 2 nights at this motel.First I would like to say that the service was excellent. They went out of their way to look after us with tips on where to eat, laundry service, and even a ride Inthe early morning to meet up with some people we were meeting for a bike ride..The rooms were comfortable and clean and might I add at a very reasonable cost.the motel is centrally located near good restaurants and tourist attractions.you will not be disappointed should you decide to stay here--happy travels--Doug Oram,Surrey,BC Canada

I stayed here 2 nights. While the building itself is probably 50 years old, it is well maintained, clean and tastefully decorated.

They had no breakfast, but is within easy walking distance to several good cafes, sports bars and restaurants.

What sets this motel apart is the management. The couple who own it are extremely accommodating; they were eager to help every time I needed something. I would stay here again in a minute next time in Dodge City. If you want more perks, fine, but you'll pay MUCH more!

I was impressed with the Thunderbird Motel. It was only fifty bucks and very clean. It seems as though the husband and wife team do it all. Easy access. Right on the highway. Cool vintage sign and rooms I'm assuming fifties mid-century. Trip Advisor makes us use too many characters to post.

We strongly disagree with the excellent & very good reviews, even the average! Extremely dated, old and run down. No Kleenex, no coffee or pot & the TV remote barely worked. The refrigerator sounded like a Mack truck all night, possibly lowest watt light bulbs made except for the one in the light outside the very large window at the foot of the bed that did not have black out drapes. Free wifi, what wifi? The TV, fridge, microwave and something else are all plugged into a bar that isn't even able to push in the socket all the way because it's beside the mirror. Fire hazard? The icing on our cake was the 1/2 dozen or so workers staying there who stood outside their rooms drinking, smoking & talking loudly using very colorful language until around 11 (PM that is). When I mentioned it to the "nice" lady in the office she said let her know if it got too bad, really? When I mentioned the non functioning wifi to the "nice" man in the office he asked "what do you want me to do", really? Had we not been driving for over 12 hours and hadn't already paid we would have left, we should have left. We stayed in 4 other hotels that week for just about the same price that were far superior so cost isn't a factor.
If you see workman standing around their pickups drinking a beer and can smell what the owners cooked for dinner...go on down the road to the next place. Really
P. S. The next morning we stepped lightly thru the remnants of the workman's evening soirée's debris in our doorway.

Its a cheap motel with good beds! quiet and the owner is very helpful. no frills except ice. we could've stayed a block away for double the price and gotten a lot of frills! I do think it's cheaper to book online then to drive up without reservations!

Stayed there for a week on business. Very good weekly rate and unlike most weekly rate stays, they service your room daily. Very friendly and helpful "on site owners". They even gave me a bag of homemade beef jerky on checkin. It's an older motel but the owners take pride in the place. Very clean and comfortable beds. Nothing fancy but nice and quiet. Would not hesitate to stay there again. Very satisfied.

I've started to expect a lot from TripAdvisor finds (in terms of walking in and going "oh, this is nice!") and unfortunately, this one fell a bit short of the mark. It was nice enough, and the price was great -- clean, big room but very old-fashioned looking and needing some sprucing up. My first impression was that the room was very dingy -- not enough lamps, and those that were there were oddly placed with the lightbulbs that take a while to get bright. At first the TV remote would not work but after some pushing on the back, it started to. The bathroom has no tub, just a shower and a fairly small one at that and the cold water tap is somewhat stiff to turn and finicky. If you're expecting shower amenities or other room amenities, this is not the place for you -- no coffee in room, or shampoo or conditioner. The bed was comfy enough but my husband was leery of the comforter -- I think it was clean but its dark color and faded state didn't do it any favors. The owners seem nice and with a little paint job and some renovating the place would be great, especially for the price.
