“well run accommodation within an interesting heritage site.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 5, 2008

Spent two nights here as a part of the Port Arthur experience.
The husband and wife owners were very nice to deal with and made the whole experience an excellent event.
Strongly recommend this place and would return here again.
there is an interesting museum on the site that traces original settlement form the convict era. Think about buying your groceries in Hobart or a large town if you want to do your own cooking as there are few large shops in the area.( same as for cradle mountain by the way)

  • Liked — beautifully restored buildings in a heritage precinct
  • Disliked — cooking facility a little unusual in design and operation. tight shower( hard to bend over)

Only stayed a night at Cascades but it was a great experience. The location is fantastic with a private beach and little museum. Recommended.

Stunning location with really comfortable accommodation.

This was one of the high points of out Tassie visit.

It had been raining, raining, raining and the ground was boggy, but it was truly soul-satisfying to walk and see beautiful views at every turn.

I would LOVE to return!

We stayed at the Cascades Colonial which is about 5 kilometres from Port Arthur historical site. Upon our arrival we went to the owner's house to check in and were greeted by Maria as if we were old friends. She could not have been more welcoming. The cottages are restored buildings from the convict era. They are so tastefully done but also have mod cons. We stayed in the luxury spa cottage and it could not have been nicer. It had a lovely bed, spa bath and heating throughout. My wife says the sheets were fabulous, I thought they were sheets.

We only stayed the one night in which we did the ghost tour at Port Arthur, we wished we would have allocated more time in this wonderful part of the world.
