Located in a breathtaking backdrop of Rwanda's northern volcanoes on the shores of Ruhondo Lake, a night at the new Ruhondo Beach Resort was an interesting an worthwhile experience. The good: unbelievable scenery, extremely accommodating and friendly staff (especially John), comfortable rooms (on-site tents and camping also available). The bad: a general lack of activities and very bland food with limited choices. This becomes a problem given that the resort is very isolated, and therefore you do not have the option to look elsewhere for these things. The most accessible means of getting to the resort is by boat from the power station across the lake (where you park overnight if coming by car). While the staff is happy to accommodate boat rides, it is still somewhat of a hassle if you want to go into Musanze for better dining options. Furthermore, while this resort is close enough and could in-theory accommodate for those tourists visiting the gorillas, it is not set up for this purpose and getting to the park early for gorilla-trekking would be very difficult. This is a very new resort, so hopefully some of these problems will be worked out in the future, as this place has huge potential. We all found ourselves looking for little ways to improve this resort...
