The Dove really is a pub, which serves excellent food. The last two lunches we have had there, we were the only customers, except one other couple, which I find UNBELIEVABLE. The food is fantastic and very cheap. This is British food at its best. To start I had creamed crab on toast, only the white meat with a subtle flavour, surrounded by a light cream of the brown meat. I followed this with another starter, and this was as good as it gets, Simon Hopkinson and Joyce Molyneux would really approve, a perfectly cooked duck egg on a bed of asparagus with black pudding. All I can say is each component was cooked perfectly and the combination of all three was sublime. My daughters pudding was a clever deceipt, I thought it was a thin piece of cheesecake with a blob of ice cream on top, the "ice cream" was the cheesecake and the thin bit was the biscuit with a pile of strawberries in their syrup. I ate half of it, and I never normally eat pudding. I suggest you go now before everyone discovers this gem.
