“Basic camping!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2013

10 of us stayed a while ago, toilets were ok but I didnt want to use the showers although some did. Thats basically the facilities. Fields were nice but we camped in the woods, the kids loved it.
Id recommend if you like basic facilities for a night or 2 but not if your looking for a little shop, washing up sinks, nice showers and toilets.

I thought I would give my views on Forgewood after reading the reviews and being somewhat worried as to what had changed, in 3 years it is still just as good!!
We went for a weekend with friends, the staff are as friendly as they have always been, if you know where you want to stay; field (what area) and the forest (what area) you should note this when you book, you get as much space as you need, we had a relaxed few days stay the children had an amazing time as always, the log fire was amazing and a big hit we had torrential rain on the last evening but we were unaffected on the whole being in the forest. There are no electric points and no clubhouse, but the thing that makes us keep coming back is that as a family you make your own fun (walks, rounders and Nerff guns) . Would I recommend Forgewood? yes I would the ONLY downside was the facilities (toilets and showers) there really needs to be more of them, but it served it's purpose on the whole. We can't wait until we go back next year!!!

Don't be put if by my average review. Not really been camping much in my life, but if you take into account any trip will have a communial pitfall when it comes to wading, toilets and showers, you begin to accept it can and will be fun. Thesis Delos is the best. The woods walk is great. I enjoyed it.

A largish group of us have just returned from a great weekend at Forgewood. We camp as a group every year and each year try a new campsite. We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived as we were given a really nice corner of the main field with plenty of room for our 5 large tents and 'event tent' in the middle for us all to congregate. The kids spent hours in the woods playing. We were able to enjoy ourselves past twelve o'clock without anyone asking us to keep the noise down, which was a refreshing change. But as a campsite it is totally let down by the facilities. Our first morning I spent 35 minutes queuing for the showers as they were being cleaned at 7.45-8.45am!!! What a daft time to clean the toilets!!! Then that evening the toilets were again closed for over 2 hours (although I found out this was because the showers were leaking and nothing to do with the toilets!!!) How can a full packed campsite 'shut' the toilets and leave one separate one for ALL those people!!! Disgusting!!!! Our last morning we woke to find just ONE shower working and again the longest queue you could imagine. We even queued for over 25 mins to wash up as only one sink was working for the whole site!!!!!! All the men in our party had to make do with cold showers the whole weekend as apparently the mens showers have NO hot water!!!!Not good enough. Such a shame these things let them down. A simple squeezey mop and bucket like other campsites leave in the showers would be a good idea too, as wading through muddy water every time you want the loo is not great!!!

We arrived at forge wood to camp as part of a larger group but upon arriving and being directed to the lower field we actually decided against staying!
Weather conditions were unfavourable and cars were actually getting stuck in the mud. There were only 2 smelly disgusting portaloos open as the mobile toilet block had been closed (something to do with the lorry not being able to get down to them because the mud slick track - presumably to empty them?)
There was only one water tap - that people were using for hand washing and drinking water! Nice!
The facilities in the top field were better yet a 10 minutes walk along very uneven muddy tracks.
We attempted to get our money back but the 'mogel' sat in his office on his swivel chair refused flat and is clearly more interested in counting his pennies than improving what would be a fantastic site.
For the nightly rate, you can get much more more locally.
Will not be returning.

I think the title says it all. I stayed at Forgewood as part of a group, we had booked an area in advance and were given a generous area to pitch our tents.

The fields themselves are fantastic with great woods all around in which you can camp if you choose. The staff we friendly and helpful and come around on e a day delivering wood for your camp fire!!

That is where the good stuff ends, because the facilties at the site are awful. There was only 3 showers on the site for the men, it was a very busy weekend when we stayed and queuing for a shower was the norm....as was queuing to use one of the 4 sinks to wash up in!!! There was only 2 toilets in the toilet block...one of which was blocked most of the weekend. The water was freezing cold at both the sinks and showers, the heating system obviously needs investing in to cope with demand.

Of course I'm assuming that you walk the 10 mins from the bottom field to use them. All that was provided in the lower field was 1 tap and a few smelly portaloos. I'm sure that under normal conditions they would have been enough, but not when it's busy!!

In all the site was lovely, the setting perfect but the facilities awful...I will not be rushing back!!

this is not our first visit. we love coming to forgewood. the kids have a great time playing in the woods and we often only see them when they are hungry. come the evening they love that we can build a fire a toast marshmallows. however this year we were next to some very inconsiderate neighbours who were very loud till past 1.30am. after two nights we all packed up (40 of us) as we couldn't stand a 3rd night of their noise. we also a felt that considering how very full the campsite was some nicer amenities might of been welcome. the porter loo's were not nice and many of the kids wouldn't use them. no one bothered with the showers. they were not great due to the large amounts of people there and limited showers. this has not put us off returning however, but we do hope we have kinder more thoughtful neighbours next time. A nice, simple, basic, fun campsite. that said the space that was put aside for our party was incredibly generous.
