“Great Venue and Delicious Food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 18, 2012

Returning from abroad, and thanks to this site, I chose The Old Olive Bush as the venue for a small family get together, purely on location and the reviews of previous customers. They were not fibbing! It is a lovely pub, with a snug bar that is exactly that, wonderful home-cooked fare ( a previous reviewer said the desserts are to die for, absolutely correct and I would add the cauliflower cheese to a long list of entries on that list ), Jane, her husband and all the staff were both accommodating and friendly and because we all enjoyed visiting there so much, we are planning to make what was a " one off " visit, a regular event. A great find, highly recommended.

“Everything You Would Expect From An Excellent Village Pub Restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2012

The Old Olive Bush is in the small village of Flecknoe located between Southam and Daventry. It is a typical country pub with all of the features that you like to see. The bar is smallish with a log fire with really good draught beer from a local brewery. There is another small room adjacent with a traditional skittles game.
The restaurant is a real gem. The food is largely home made and delicious. The menu covers all of the usual dishes that you would expect from a pub (steaks, lamb shank, chicken, lasagne, chilli, fish and chips etc) but specials are available such as Jane's homemade pies. The puds are all superb and highly recommended. The wine list is reasonably priced and very good (the Willowglen Shiraz Cabernet is my favourite).
The staff are friendly and attentive without being intrusive.
Highly recommended. You may need to book to get a table over the weekend.

“Great find!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2012 via mobile

Small group of friends, differing age groups all LOVED the Old Olive Bush - food was amazing, all locally produced, freshly and lovingly made. Puddings to die for! Good value for money, warm and very welcoming atmosphere - had a good laugh with the staff! so glad we found it. We will be back!!!!!

(Was tempted to write a bad review to keep the place to ourselves but the praise is well deserved!!!)

“Good pub in a lovely village”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2012

This is a proper village pub in a proper English village.

We have been coming for years, mooring our boat at either bridge 101 or 102 and walking up the hill. It's about 15 minutes either way, long enough to sharpen the appetite, and of course it is downhill on the way back when you are full of food and beer!

The beer is good; there are usually three real ales, well kept by Mark.

The food is good too; no reheated factory-made stuff but cooked by Jane on the premises from fresh ingredients, many local. She can tell you where the meat comes from, for example.

Our last visit was on a Tuesday night, which is 'pie and pint' night. For £9.95 you get pie, chips, peas, and a pint (or a glass of wine if you prefer). That's great value when the food and beer are so good. We were both intrigued by a 'pork, leek and cheddar' pie, apparently Jane's own invention and very tasty.
