“what a place”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2012

We reserved 7 rooms for the weekend of July 21. At least two rooms had cooling problems. Our room was set to 60 and never got below 74. They came and looked at it unplugged it and plugged it back in. It didn't come on back on but I was able to get it to come on by turning it on to heat. My daughter was given a key to on check in. There was already someone in this room with beer bottles and clothing strewn all over. They gave her another room which had a dirty towel hanging on the door and poop left in the toilet. We went back to the front desk. The manager brought a young employee back to clean the room. She left and left the windex on the counter and the dirty towel still hanging on the back of the door. The assistant manager said we would get a credit on our bill. The bills were put under the door at full price. After letting the front desk know about all the problems, she hadn't been informed, she cut $50 off the price. I would have thought they would have not have charged us for that room after we had paid for all the other rooms. I was told I would have to take it up with the manager. I will give them a better rating if after my call to the manager I am given a credit on my credit card.

Room Tip: Breakfast was very good but not complimentary.

Never got a call telling me of the ECOLi. Had to find out about it on the news and they didn't offer any help for finding another hotel, nor could they even tell me they would be open for my stay in 2 days!

Couldn't even talk with the manager, joke of a hotel.

We arrived on July 6th for a two night stay in the late afternoon. We were in the room for an hour or so, and the room seemed fine, if a bit dated. We did not use the beds except to sit on, the TV, or any other amenity, so I can't comment on the condition of those.

We did walk into the waterpark, as we intended to use it the following day. We were very surprised at the small size. Even though it was very hot that weekend, it seemed unduly hot in the pool area, and the air was heavy with steam and chlorine. To be honest, the area did not look inviting.

The only other place we saw in the hotel was the coffee shop, which again seemed needlessly hot and unappealing. The coffee shop was completely empty of either hotel guests or staff, even though we stood there for a good 5 minutes waiting for a staff member to appear.

We left the hotel in the evening, and did not arrive back until 11:30pm. We learned at that time that the hotel had canceled our reservation without contacting us in any way (although our key still let us into the room, and we did not find out our reservation was canceled until after we entered the room). The front desk was very chaotic, but eventually we found out that the hotel was being closed due to a "water issue". No other explanation was given, other than it seemed that the drinking water supply was compromised. To the hotel's credit, they did find us another room across the road, and they paid for that room. But needing to switch hotels in the middle of the night with a young child is terribly inconvenient.

After reading some of the reviews here, perhaps it was the pool area that caused the shutdown, and not the water supply. But regardless, I would not stay here again, and would advise others not to at this point. This is a shame, as we have stayed here numerous times in the past couple of decades, and I have very fond memories of the place before the waterpark was built. It's been quite a while since our last stay, but to say it has gone downhill since then is a bit of an understatement.

We arrived at 6:30 on a Thursday and check in was no problem. With our stay we had access to the water park until 11am on Friday but the front desk staffer told us to call if we need more time. My kids (7, 4, 2) loved the water park but after 2 hours they were done. The waterpark is rather small but adequate for kids under about 8 years old. Yes... one pool was closed from about 5 until 8pm. They stated they needed to " balance the ph level". Our family suite was comfortable although well used and a bit dingy. I would stay again but don't expect the world from this place.

This resort is overrated and overpriced. Waterpark, small with cloudy water. The so called lifeguard was sitting down and texting until I made eye contact and shook my head. Check in on Sunday evening took 30 minutes. Long line, one employee. Rooms were dated, beat up, moldy bath tub edges. No tissue in the room. We did sleep okay. On-site restaurant, pricey.

Room Tip: Ask for a first floor room-no elevator

Heres a honest opionion of Wasserban Water park in Amana Iowa.......
$150 gets you a overnite stay with 4 passes to the water park.....
I got the half price deal thru the locall newspaper ( Thank Goodness)
Check in was 4pm...and we had to check out at 11am Sunday....kinda a short window to swim shower etc I would say..Anyways
Got there at 6:30,Had supper at Maidrite it was pretty good and quick and right across the parking lot,Got our suits on and headed to the water park at 7:30......At 7:45 they closed the pool down for a 15 minute break...
8:00 opened back up no problem......They had the typical water park stuff to do but the main draw was the 2 water slides.......That they shut down at 9:00pm with a hour to go till close because they were short staffed!
(On a saturday? the busy day of the week? Nice planning)
So mostly parents sat around watching there kids in the remaining open attractions packed to the rafters with kids)
Hotel room was the norm....2 queens a fridge and 32 channels with no kids channel.....Yep no Nick at night on this tv....
Got up Sunday morning for a couple hour swim and got to the pool and the VortexPool,Log jump,Basketball hoop and swimming area are closed for the first hour of operation for lack of staffing....
The water slides and kid area were open so of course long lines since thats all thats open.........The water was a nice shade of off white and cold....

My recommendation is find another water park to bring your kids too.....
If you get a free stay and you HAVE TO GO and your kids under 6 They will not mind this water park as much as older kids........I wont be back..........

Room Tip: Move along......

We bought a local "Here's The Deal" to stay here with our kids over the winter. We never got around to it so we just went this past weekend and we were not impressed. It started with getting there at 3:45 to be told that we absolutely could not check in until 4:00 because they "had a full house last night". Seriously? You need those 15 minutes and can't let anyone check in? So, naturally, at 4:00 there was a line of 20 people waiting to check in and the prepared for that by doing nothing. No extra people to check us in or anything. Get a clue.

The room was ok but not very clean. There were a bunch of sticky spots on the carpet (gross) that we had no idea what they were from. The coffee maker was missing the basket that holds the coffee. All sorts of little things like that added up to make the room that seemed ok feel like a hole in the wall.

The pool and "waterpark" were even worse. You could feel the dirt on the bottom of the pool and see it at the ends of the slides in piles. They obviously never clean it. Most of the park was closed while we were there and the next AM the WHOLE park was closed because something was broken. It was just really sad that management and the employees couldn't take a little more pride in the facility. Things would fix themselves.

The good news was our two boys are quite young so they were oblivious to the issues and had a blast. My wife and I agreed we would never return. There are better options to this place.

Room Tip: Rooms at a different hotel are better!
