“Good food, just had to shellout a few more clams than I thought.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

Glad we gave Joe's another try. Our first experience was nothing to wite home about!
The food was good and the service was much better this time around. My only big concern was the price. I realize we are in the Midwest but $9-11.50 appetizers and & indivual meals ranging in the $20(plus). Glad we had a gift card. Crab shack name fool me. :)
Living in the Midwest it was definitely nice to have some good sea food.

“Very Good Lunch Experience at Joe's Crab Shack in DSM!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 23, 2012

I treated our 13 year old son there on his birthday as we were in Des Moines for a few days! Granted the restaurant was not very busy at this time of day, but the service was excellent, they walked us thru the menu and the gluten free options. The staff and chef was very knowledgeable with respect to food allergies. We shared the classic steam pot, an entree of mahi mahi, and two ice tea's. A bit pricey for just the two of us, $45 for lunch, but well worth it! Great service, very good seafood, all around very good experience!

“Was disappointed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2012

Thought there would be more of a variety of items on the menu. It is clearly tapered for Crab lovers. We frequent Red Lobster and have our favorites there. Tried Joe's for something different.

“Not a place for a nice meal”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2012

If you want fishy tasting mussels, blaring noise, a waitress who sits down across from you in your booth and pesters you every minute to get your order this is the place for you. Combinations are limited and if the mussels were any indicator, I would not expect much from the rest of the menu. I left without ordering a main course.

“Paying for the atmosphere!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2012

Haven't been to a Joe's in sometime--and was a little taken aback at the price. Used to love the "Steam Pots" but refuse to pay $25-$30 for them! Tables were so close together we were practically connected to the next table--in fact, waitress backed up from one table and about ended up on my lap. Crowded and quite noisy--not recommended for a quiet dinner. Service was adequate, but not outstanding!
