“TRADITION MOVING FORWARD”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 22, 2012

Des Moines has a very deep Italian immigrant base and therfore can lay claim to some of the finest italian food in the country. Steeped in a rich family tradition, The Talerico's continue to strive for fine dining excellence, And it shows. From the white linen tablecloths to the impeccably dressed staff, this is one that is sure to please. I heavily rate a restaurant by not only food and service, but by the crowd. The diners always look happy here and for good reason. So leave your Olive Garden 2 for $25 thinking behind and come enjoy one of the finer dining experiences in central Iowa, It's worth every penny.

“Great Food and Friendly Staff make this a favorite”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 12, 2012

The food is always outstanding but the service is what makes this a great restaurant. You can never go wrong with the halibut or any of the steaks. Love the sausage and pepper app. Yes it can be noisy at times but you know you are in a great place when there are that many people!

“ASK if they have the Sea Bass”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 10, 2012

on the menue when you go. It is the most wonderful fish I've ever eaten. If you have room for an appetizer, you HAVE to try the Italian Nachos, which are flooded with Grazianos Sausage - a piece of heaven made right in Des Moines, Iowa. This restaurant is pricey, and has very limited hours - but an evening here will be remembered for a long time.

“Nice atmosphere, too loud”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2012

I had read that the lounge Sam and Gabe's was a hidden gem in Des Moines so we went for a drink on Friday at 7pm. The room was pleasantly full with 2 small tables available at the far end of the rectangular room, farthest from the jazz duo who were playing. The room has a very comfortable, warm feel with a good lively buzz. However, even at the far end of the bar the piano was too loud. It seemed as though people were talking louder than usual to
be heard. There voices didn't intrude but the piano did. I had a hard time really relaxing into the space because of its loudness. It definitely was much more than background music. I wanted to have a drink with my spouse not attend a concert. I also wanted a special cocktail as we were celebrating our anniversary. The only drink on their list that wash't super sweet was a traditional martini. I noticed most people were drinking wine. I wanted a mojito (no fresh mint) or a cucumber martini or something like that. The server said the least sweet was the Lemon Drop so that's what I ordered. It turned out to have sugar on the rim, was sweet with none of the tartness I had hoped for. My husband had a Manhattan which he enjoyed. We also had the toasted ravioli appetizer ($9). It was quite tasty with 6 nice sized ravioli.
Bottom line: nice atmosphere, turn down the music.
