“What a place......”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2013

This is most definitely one of the best places we have stayed in. Julian and Nigel are excellent hosts - there when you need them. We didn't have dinner with them but having read so many positive reviews of their food, wish we had. Cocktails were scrummy though - thank you!
We stayed a week in Beau and one in Neuf. Even though there are 3 houses, you would never know as there is so much space (well-tended) that you can enjoy privacy all day.
Beau is the most beautiful house; the views from the arched window are spectacular and an excellent spot to watch the occasional storms. The house was immaculate, the showers good and the beds comfortable. Coffee on the terrace every morning watching the sunrise was very relaxing, with uninterrupted views across the fields. The kitchen was well equipped and the fridge is a great size, so you can keep all the drinks chilled.
Neuf is a larger house than Beau and is also fabulous. The bedrooms are larger with areas for seating too. Our two 15 year olds were delighted to have space to chill out and be able to watch a DVD from the extensive collection when it was too warm outdoors. The views from the master bedroom to the foothills of the Pyrenees were stunning and a great place to sit, read and relax. Again the house was immaculate, showers good and beds very comfortable. The fridge is also a great size and the kitchen well equipped.
The private garden in Neuf is a suntrap from late morning – we enjoyed the sunrise on the patio to the front of the house. The environs are fabulous, the mulberry trees spectacular, plenty space for energetic children (of all ages) to play without disturbing others.
In both these houses there is enough space to hold a small ceilidh. The open plan ground floors are spacious and easy to keep tidy – there is nothing worse than feeling things are cluttered when you are on holiday.
The linen and towels are good quality. The washing machines and dishwashers make for an easy life. The swimming pool is fabulous and clean with a deep end that was greatly appreciated for diving and jumping. The robot that helps with the cleaning was fascinating. There are plenty of loungers and shade if you want or need it.
The surrounding area is beautiful and we would recommend Mirepoix on both market day and not. Foix is lovely and the baker (Mme Fleury) and butcher in Belpech have delicious produce. If you ask Julian and Nigel they will recommend many places to visit and things to do and even the local wines to buy in the Intermarche. There are many useful gems of information in the visitor books and the house handbooks are excellent.
We would return without any hesitation but would recommend you experience Loustalviel for yourself.

Room Tip: Beau has smaller bedrooms. The rooms in Neuf are larger and were a great space especially for teena...

Just had the most relaxing two weeks staying in Le Domaine de Loustalviel. Spacious spotlessly clean accommodation set in beautiful grounds.
The pool is an excellent size for just 3 x gites and the are more than enough sun loungers for everyone.
The hosts Nigel and Julian made us feel very welcome and had lots of great advice and suggestions of where to go and where to visit.
We look forward to returning one day!

We have travelled to France on many occasions but this is our first stay this far South. There were seven of us in the party so four stayed in Loustalneuf and the other three stayed in L'Ostalet (me writing this included). Loustalneuf was lovely and very spacious, but I stayed in L'Ostalet and really loved it. My son was in the upstairs bedroom on his own and loved the spiral staircase, and my husband and I had the downstairs en suite room that was very spacious and comfortable. We had a great modern kitchen, English TV (useful for our 9 year old son) and a lovely area to eat outside and BBQ. Everything was immaculate which I really appreciated and there is a lot of attention to detail. The pool is a great size and kept beautifully clean. We ate with Julian and Nigel on our second night and they did us proud with a great meal and lovely wine. I am hoping that we will get the chance to stay here again in the future. Thank you for a great holiday. The Sellicks.

We had a brilliant holiday :-)
I'm so glad we chose to stay at Loustalviel, it was the perfect setting for a very rare family holiday.
We needed somewhere quiet & peaceful & beautiful, but also something close to places we could explore, while still being interesting enough to keep our 3 kids (10, 12, 14) entertained. This was it in spades. Books, travel information, games, DVDs, a Wii, views, quiet, great kitchen, tiny walled garden and your own barbecue.... The pool was completely wonderful, the house was clean and spacious and pretty with absolutley everything we needed.
The beds were excellent (if shortish!) and the pillows and towels, too. It was so good having enough space for some to be able to escape and read, or go for walks. It makes a difference if you don't have to live in each others' pockets the whole time.
The surrounding area is chock-full of beautiful things to see & visit. Absolutely beautiful landscape.
One of the best things about the property was the "Handbook" in the cottage: with pages and pages of the most wonderful recommendations and information it was invaluable.
The level of attention to detail overall was quite amazing and greatly appreciated. As most reviewers have said, the delicious dinner our hosts cooked for us was fantastic: thank you, guys! It was very nice meeting the other guests and chatting to them, too!
J & N were so helpful and friendly and we wish them loads of success in their venture.
We all had a very relaxing time. I hope we can come back one day...
Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Loustalneuf was perfect for a family of five

Had a great stay with our young family, dinner cooked by the hosts was excellent and is a must. A very remote setting but the house was beautifully clean and well equipped. Very safe for children with a fenced pool. Cant fault any of our stay..... Tks.

We had a really lovely holiday in L'Ostalet, the garden was lovely and private and it was so nice to be able to dip in the large pool when the sun got too hot. Lot's of shady areas if we wanted and equally places to bask in the sun. The house was well-equipped and the domaine is well placed equally for Carcassonne and southwards into Ariege with Mirepoix and Foix.
we loved our holiday and would love to return.

Room Tip: Each of the gites on the domaine has a different character and outlook but all were excellent. The p...

This is our second holiday at Loustalviel. Last year we stayed in 'L'Ostalet' and this June we were a little more self indulgent, renting 'L'Oustalbeau'.

The domaine is easily reached from Toulouse airport, and is situated in peaceful rolling countryside, with views of the distant Pyrenees.

L'Oustalbeau is spacious and airy, and the fittings, equipment and furnishings are of a very high standard. The grounds of the domaine are very large, and are as immaculately kept as the house and the heated swimming pool.

Julian and Nigel, who are friendly and very (unobtrusively) helpful, clearly work hard to make the experience of staying at Loustalviel a relaxing and comfortable one for their guests. We greatly enjoyed our dinners with them. The food was delicious, matched by the abundant wine.

This is a great place for a holiday with or without families. We walked along the Canal du Midi, strolled along the ridge which stretches west from the house, and apart from the obligatory trips to charming Mirepoix, visited several other places small and large, including Toulouse itself - well worth it if you have less than blisteringly hot weather.

We will certainly return.
