The new Kings Pointe Resort is quite an acheivement - a $35 million resort featuring ballroom, conference facilities, spectacular lakefront views, and both indoor and outdoor water parks. We booked a room for the Buena Vista University homecoming weekend and were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the rooms, the facilities, and decor. Rooms featured a small sundeck and the lakeside rooms had great views. Construction is still ongoing around the property, but there was no noticeable noise during sleepy hours. Just a few minor bugs -- the cleaning service knocked on the door shortly after 8AM(!) so be sure to have that "Do Not Disturb" out the night before if you aren't an early riser. The indoor waterpark doesn't rival Wisconsin Dells, but it will put to shame most other Iowa water parks. There was ZERO waiting on the Friday evening when we went. Its three indoor slides should keep 5 to 12 year olds busy for a while, but teens will probably yawn after a half hour. Service in the Regatta grille is still being perfected, but I chalk it up to inexperience with a new facility and staff and hope bugs (such as waiting 20 minutes or more before being checked on by waitstaff) will be ironed out quickly. The lakeside view is good enough to make you overlook such issues but I am sure things will only get better. This fall should be a great time to visit if you don't like crowds. Plan your visit now word spreads about this great resort!
