“Average hotel, but nicest in the area”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2013 via mobile

I have stayed here many times for business and it is an average property at best. Keep in mind that it is the niches property in the area and a lot of people like it.

The rooms are large and spacious, but are very dark with little lighting. Beds are comfortable and the rooms are always clean. There is a lot of counter space in the bathroom, however the tubs are small. The work desk / chair are terrible. The chair sits too low and is a regular chair, not an office type chair. If you spend, more than 10, minutes on your laptop your wrists will go numb because of the bad angle.

The food at the restaurant is usually decent, but not outstanding by any means. The higher end items are not worth the price. The service in the restaurant is hit or miss. This time it was very good. In general they are very proud of themselves and they don't deserve it. The view from the restaurant is beautiful.

I have never used the water park, but it seems small and with limited hours. I'm sure it would be fun for smaller kids though. There are several slides indoors and out.

Service is where this hotel really lacks. They need to send their people to Hilton or Disney school! Front desk staff are generally friendly, but slow and easily distracted. There is too much paperwork to check in and there is no quick checkout option. Good luck if you are in a hurry. If they get a phone call you are out of luck too. Housekeepers are oblivious to guests. They hog the one elevator with their carts and make no effort to allow guests to go first. There is no greeting when in the hall. I think they should have carts on each floor if they only have one elevator. I waited almost 10 minutes because they were loading and unloading carts on the other floors, then they made the guy waiting behind me wait again while they loaded yet another cart.

Outside the hotel along the lake is really beautiful with sculpted trees. An evening walk is a must.

All in all it is not a bad place for small town Iowa. Be prepared for slow, sometimes indifferent service and just have fun. For business travelrs its the only decent place in town, but that's part of the service problem. They know it and it shows.

Dear Joe N,

Thank you for your recent stay at King’s Pointe Waterpark Resort. We appreciate your business and your feedback.

We are in the process of updating all of the desk chairs in the guest rooms. We know that we have several business travelers and we want them to all be comfortable while working from their guest room.

We do train our front desk staff on a monthly basis and will continue to do so as there is always room for improvement. In regards to our check-in process, we try to make our check in process as efficient as possible, by having our guest’s complete limited amount of information on our registration form. This process should be very quick and take no more than 5 minutes. We always look for ways to improve our check in and checkout process for our guests who have limited time.

In regards to our housekeeping staff using the elevators, they do use our service elevator on the far west side of the resort when they are going to the second and third floor. Unfortunately, those having to go to the first floor have to use the same elevator as our guests. We are sorry for any inconvenience this has caused you and we will be sure and discuss this with our housekeeping supervisor so she can address this with her staff.

Consistency is a never ending goal of ours at the Regatta Grille. We set our goals high so we can improve each and every day as servers, hosts, cooks, bartenders, and managers. We are glad you enjoyed the service and the view on your most recent visit!

We do appreciate your feedback and hope to see you again in the near future. In the meantime feel free to “like” us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter (@kings_pointe), or sign up for our newsletter on our website for the latest specials and upcoming events.

Sincerely,

“Nice Getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2013

The Kings Pointe in Storm is a nice retreat with a local flair. The water park is a popular attraction for young people and the Regatta Grill is a great place to enjoy a drink or nicely prepared meal.
The view from the Regatta Grill or along the outdoor corridor is refreshing for a smaller community which rightly prides itself in its beautiful lake and water front activities. The new miniature golf course is an added and well received attraction.

“Worth the drive”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2013

My husband and I brought our three children, ages 16 months, 10, & 12. Each one of us had a fantastic time! The staff was very friendly and helpful. The waterparks were both very fun. The slides were a huge hit with all of us (except the toddler). There is a lazy river outside, which is pretty small (nothing like the one at Adventureland Park in Altoona). We would recommend this place to others for sure!

“Great water park adjacent to the lake”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2013

Indoor and outdoor water park with multiple slides. Most of the slides (all outside) require you to be at least 48" to ride alone. The outside slides are great - one with lots of curves and open to the air; another similar but steeper and closed (i.e. dark like space mountain in the water); 2 very steep slides and a "bowl" slide. Many other water features and diving. Fun day.

“Family Fun”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2013

Kings Pointe provided a relaxing day of enjoyment for the entire family. The setting is beautiful with the pool overlooking beautiful Storm Lake. The pools were clean and wait times were short to use all of the different slides and diving boards available. The live DJ was also a very nice touch.
