“Overnight stay in subzero temperature.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 week ago via mobile

Despite the cold outside, the warm inside the hotel made my stay memorable.
Double room was very cosy and warm. Nicely refurbished and secure.
The bar serves a huge range of Tasmanian craft beers and ciders, a small range on tap.
The meal was heartily home cooked and filling.
The conversation around the fire with locals and tourists topped off a great night.

Very historic hotel and has potential to be charming. Looks and feels run down and staff seem to do minimum or maybe the scant staff cannot do what is needed in the time they have. Ladies Bathroom had many cobwebs and live spiders although toilet and basin had been recently cleaned. Rooms are tiny but they are the original size so that is part of the deal and to be expected. However, there is no TV, wi-fi or mobile phone reception in this hotel. Campers are welcome in the grounds and have their own facilities. We were asked to settle our account before retiring as no one would be on duty until 11am and we would have left by then. Breakfast is a self serve affair with cereal in a cupboard and bread in the frig. We would have been happy to pay around $60 for the room and service standard but $85 was a bit rich. When I enquired about a gluten free option for meals, none was offered even though there were only a few guests for dinner. I needed to design my own meal as the chef had ignored my earlier request to the other staff member. Fortunately, I only have an intolerance to gluten so I try to avoid it as much as possible. Most places try to accommodate GF these days. The staff are only formally polite at best and appear disinterested. We would have stayed longer in the bar area and spent more money but felt uncomfortable.Apparently the chef was sleeping in one of the rooms but had there been an emergency,we would have been on our own as we were unaware which room he was in. Some more comfortable seating in the bar and dining area would improve guest comfort. This hotel had just had a large centre page promotion in Tasmania Travel Magazine so we were surprised that its hype was just that and nothing special. This hotel needs some interested management and it could be marvellous.

Room Tip: Be prepared for basic facilities only.

After a long hard ride I was looking forward to a rest here.
The pub itself was nice, the food and drinks were good, although expensive. The camping was terrible.
For me a place is judged by its toilets and showers. The showers were free and hot, but filthy. The toilets also filthy, one male toilet for the whole camp and the urinal didn't flush. In the pub the urinal was out of order.
The camp was noisy, drunks returning to their tents, no camp kitchen at all and no camp tables.
I will never stop here again.

We had two camper vans and stayed at the back of the pub recently. Nice green grass and hot showers. Toilet and shower facilities left a bit to be desired but at $7.50 a head, you can't complain! Shower was lovely and hot. We had dinner inside and it was beautiful. We all enjoyed our meal and the owner, Mark, was very friendly. We would stay here again if the occasion arrived.

Once again Christmas was enough for 2 friends to escape the kids and go walk about, this time to Weldborough Hotel, a place we knew from motorbike rallies and camping out back, this time we stayed in and the pub itself has changed little, missing some of the great old photos/memorabilia but still a great pub, rooms a small but beds are so comfy sharing a bathroom can at times be painful but we knew that would be the case its a pub not a 5 star hotel, although we left early morning as there was no water! probably some small problem, but loved the serenity ;) no mb phones no internet no tv, phone box outside the pub and sitting on the veranda sipping a bevvy couldn't get any better and close to everywhere we wanted to explore.

What can I say Mark and Felicity are great publicans and they run a great old pub with so many pictures and history all over there walls. There is a great selection of beers and the food is very good they have a very good grassy area out the back of the pub where you can put up your tent or park your caravan with many powered sites. I recommend that you take some time to visit this great pub and spend a night ..have a feed and sample the great range of beer. Don't miss out you will love it.

my wife and I were travelling around Tasmania, feeling peckish and went through a few largish towns and decided to stop at a lovely quaint off the main drag pub. Lunch hours had finished but the owners still met all our needs. lovely lunch and some boutique beers later we left completely satisfied. foods superb and setting lovely. as we were leaving the owner printed out all the boutique breweries in Tasmania for me.
