My husband has been staying at this motel for many years during hunting season. Whether remodeling is being done, or not, the rooms are always clean and the staff helpful. He raved about this little gem so much, a group of friends decided to make a week end trip to the area and stay at this particular motel. We weren't a bit disappointed. Food nearby was delicious, local shopping was fun, and the views from the deck were fantastic whether early morning, midday, or night. He is already booked for this December and our little social group will return next summer.

Room Tip: The view from the top floor is great.

This property had been quite run down on our last visit (previous managers), but we like the area and the fact that they allow us to bring our dog, so we came back again. The new managers are busy renovating, and it's apparent that the work is progressing. We had a very nice room (Jeremy upgraded us for free), with a view of the river. This is a great value in a great location, and we'll be back again.

As the owner of the Holiday Shores I am always pleased when guests recognize we are working hard to improve the Holiday Shores and return it to its former glory. We will always have our magnificent location but sadly our facilities had become a bit "tired." When we get a thumbs up for what we are now also, I am doubly pleased. Thanks for being our guest and come back this summer to see our improvements including a boat dock with floating patio for our quests and renovated bathrooms.

Older hotel with the best location in the area! We spent two evenings sitting by the fire ring right on the Mississippi, watching the moon come up and the tug boats going by. Our room was dated, bathroom sink dripped and toilet ran but the room was clean with large windows overlooking the river. The front office cleaning staff were friendly and accommodating. They also have a basket of small towels outside the office to dry off your motorcycles and bikes The actual building is clearly showing it's age, but we came with low expectations so we weren't disappointed. This is clearly an older "mom & pop" type of establishment but you can't beat the location. Hopefully the improvements will continue as it certainly has potential!

Great river front location with sturdy metal chairs, tables, and fire ring on a grass courtyard. Firewood was available from large wood building they tore down south of motel. Rooms are being remodeled as the new managers are able to do it. One customer ranted about the parking lot in back being gravel. If you have never been on gravel, then you should stay in a big city and go to a Hilton ! This is a small river town with lots of wonderful history to enjoy. Everyone was friendly and helpful and it is a safe area. Will definitely stay again. Oh, the trees on the bluffs were breath taking!

This hotel is in a prime location, and is being slowly upgraded and improved. From what I heard, the building itself was in pretty bad shape a few years ago.
My husband and I stayed in room 29, an over sized corner room with wonderful big window views to the river on two sides. I had read some of the negative reviews and we made our reservations with the knowledge that things might not be perfect.
Our room was neat and clean, and we appreciated the large clean windows and the air conditioner working well to keep the room cool. The walls and ceilings seemed to be newly dry-walled and textured and freshly painted. But, I sincerely hope the management is intending to upgrade all bathrooms next, because the one in room 29 was pretty shabby and worn out. New bath towels, hand towels and washcloths would be an immediate must! I know improvements take time and money, but new bed pillows and bed-spread and shams would go a long way to making a guest feel at home and comfortable.
I know the priority is to make the structure itself sound, and the new stairways and walkway balconies are wide and sturdy, with great river views. It was very enjoyable to watch the comings and goings of boats, barges, and tour boats of all sizes as they passed by just outside our room. Some of the seating on the balconies desperately needs to be replaced, but we were comfortable there in the shade of the afternoon.
Our room was quiet and featured a king sized bed, and there was a little refrigerator and a microwave and a small coffee maker. There was a small table and two chairs by the windows and a large new comfortable easy chair in front of the television.
The outside gathering area is nice and would have been even better if we hadn't gone through such a dry summer and the grass would be green and the river flowing deeply and up to those lovely river edge stones. Nice area to be with friends by the river!
This hotel has huge potential and could be a destination in and of itself when the owners are able to bring the quality of the furnishings up to a much higher standard. If there had been no sign of the owners/management trying to upgrade, I would have rated it poor, but I rated this hotel average since it's obvious they are working toward improvements, and it will be much nicer when it's all done.
I feel the owners deserve a chance to keep this iconic hotel by the river going, and I am looking forward to a better future for them as they keep moving forward.

Room Tip: The best views are the three rooms on each of three levels on the river side, and there is one wing...

Me and my friends had a little get away, we rented out the whole top floor and opened up all the conecting doors turning it in to one large party pad. I spoke to the manager about some work he was doing while i was there they are building a large lounge for the guests with a fire place, some games and large scrren tv for movies. It is still a little rough on the outside since they are remodeling but we spent all out ime in the room or next to the river in their large courtyard. The rooms we stayed in were verry large and well maintained. The staff was verry friendly even when we called them at 2am. I look forwared to our get away next year.

The young couple who took over management of this property only a month ago have done a great job getting things into shape. They are very gracious and bend over backwards to please their guests. The rooms are being renovated and the patio area was very neat and a great place to meet other guests. There's no other place on the river with a better view! We've been staying at Holiday Shores for more than 20 yrs. when we are in the area and are looking forward to seeing what the future brings for this property.

Room Tip: Ask for a river view. Amazingly, the way the property sits, most rooms do have a river view.
