“Beautiful Property”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2013

We stayed one night here, while in Mason City for a wedding. We were surprised by a complimentary upgrade. Our room was beautiful, windows on threes sides over looking the park. The bed was extremely comfortable, and loved the heated bathroom floor. There are many public spaces throughout the property, and outdoor spaces that would be great in the summer. They have a free continental breakfast, serving bagels, muffins, yogurt, juice and coffee. I would definitely stay here again.

My partner and I drove up from Cedar Rapids for a concert and decided to stay at this beautiful hotel. We were so pleased! From the lovely staff to the player piano in the lobby (!) this place is classy without being pretentious. Our room was stunning with beautiful views and a heated floor in the bathroom. I would also highly recommend the restaurant - wonderful food, people, and drinks. Mason City is very lucky to have such a jewel in its city. We're already planning a return trip.

I surprised my husband with a birthday night stay at the fabulous Historic Park Inn and we were so pleased with our stay there! We were in the wonderful suite overlooking the park with all the windows (13 I think if I counted correctly) and on a cold and frosty night in December the room was cozy and inviting!
The renovation of the last remaining Frank Lloyd Wright hotel was fabulous---we toured on our own and looked in all of the nooks and crannies and were so excited with all the attention to detail.
The staff was accommodating and very pleasant and each time we encountered someone on staff we were greeted with a warm welcome like it was really their pleasure to be of service.
This is a definite plus for Mason City and I hope that they have only wonderful success with this endeavor. Truly a wonderful place to stay for a special occasion or a get away!

Room Tip: Corner suite on upper level is fabulously sunny and spacious!

Five of us rented two rooms when we traveled through the area. We had come to visit the Frank Lloyd Wright Museum, about 6 blocks away from the motel. This motel is a step back in time. The rooms are quite luxurious. I loved the dimming lights in the bathroom, and the heated floors were delightful. The whole place is just flat-out awesome.

What a great place to spend the holidays...or any time. F.L. Wright fan or not, this is a delightful inn. Steeped in history with comfortable accommodations and friendly staff.

While the HPI offers a modest complimentary breakfast, we highly recommend augmenting your step back in time with a breakfast at the Suzie-Q only two blocks away. Another surviving piece of Americana.

Room Tip: If you enjoy scenry, we suggest spending a little extra for the park view or a corner room.

This is a beautiful renovation of a building of Frank Lloyd Wright. It is clean, beautiful, the restaurant is great. However, there are some bugs that need to be worked out. It is VERY difficult to find and get to the parking lot next to the hotel due to one-way streets and alleys. Directions need to be given to guests. The staff that was on when I was trying to find the lot was unable to direct me clearly. The hotel, as a luxury boutique hotel, needs to have robes available for guests, as well as in-room water bottles. Overall, it was a wonderful experience, but so new that things need some work.

Room Tip: My room overlooked the roof, but a few isn't necessary. The higher floors looked wonderful from...

This hotel is a living piece of art. From the architecture itself, down to the furniture used, it really feels as though you are stepping into the early 1900's Frank Lloyd Wright's imagination. This is our second year coming to this hotel for our anniversary. Last year got a cheaper room without a view. This year got a view of the park down town and it is worth the extra money. The room had solid windows on two side with a gorgeous view of the park downtown. The bathroom had a heated floor (which my wife loved... can see that coming to our house soon) and decorative tile, which was very pleasing to the eye.
The only thing we can say we would improve on is there was no vending machine or mini-bar for those late night cravings. Would highly recommend to friends and family.

Room Tip: A room with a view of the park is worth the added expense.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Historic Park Inn Hotel, together with City National Bank, of Mason City Iowa were designed by American architect Frank Lloyd Wright as a dual purpose building and completed in 1910. The design greatly influenced architecture in Europe and is as striking today as it ever was. The Park Inn Hotel is the last Wright designed hotel in the world, and has undergone a nearly 20 million renovation; the restoration of the distinctive brick and terra-cotta façade as well as art glass windows has restored the Prairie School building to a functional hotel. The interior, while renovated into a contemporary hotel, has public areas and guest rooms restored as closely to Wright's design as possible. Art glass and much else designed by Wright remains. Public area furnishings are period-style and include reproduction Robie House Lights, reproductions of the Mercury statues Richard Bock and Wright designed for the bank, and reproductions of the barrel chairs Wright designed for the bank directors' room. We invite you to come and stay with us in the center of the many area attractions Mason City has to offer. ... more   less
