This hotel is a living piece of art. From the architecture itself, down to the furniture used, it really feels as though you are stepping into the early 1900's Frank Lloyd Wright's imagination. This is our second year coming to this hotel for our anniversary. Last year got a cheaper room without a view. This year got a view of the park down town and it is worth the extra money. The room had solid windows on two side with a gorgeous view of the park downtown. The bathroom had a heated floor (which my wife loved... can see that coming to our house soon) and decorative tile, which was very pleasing to the eye.
The only thing we can say we would improve on is there was no vending machine or mini-bar for those late night cravings. Would highly recommend to friends and family.

Room Tip: A room with a view of the park is worth the added expense.

Lovely updated Frank Lloyd Wright designed hotel. You really should stay here! The setting overlooking the park is perfect. They have done a nice job of creating modern rooms out of his 1910 design, with very nice details that keep the flavor of FLW's work.

This hotel is the reason Mason City, IA is now the destination of our annual girls' get-away weekend.

The hotel is beautifully re-done! The staff is very courteous, knowledgable, and so excited about the hotel. This was our second visit, and the staff even remembered us from last year's visit.

I highly recommend it!

What a great experience being able to stay in a Frank Lloyd Wright designed hotel! We took the guided tour of the hotel before we checked in and the story of the restoration is phenomenal. The room had one queen bed and a pull-out couch. It was not a big room, but very well done in the FLW style. It was wonderful to be able to walk around the hotel leisurely and revisit all that we had seen on the tour. Reservations are necessary because the hotel is small. This is a site that should not be missed.

Our too brief stay in the HPI was lovely. The staff was very competent and very enthusiastic about sharing the building with the public. The room, a deluxe king, was beautiful--great period furniture, wonderful bedding, very nice toiletries.
We love Frank Lloyd Wright and were thrilled to stay in his only surviving hotel. Additionally, we had a wonderful meal in the 1910 Grille. A great short break.

This was our second visit to the Park Inn, as part of our 'new' annual Girl's Weekend Out. We plan to come back to this hotel every year, due to the historic nature and beauty of the building, the amazing rooms with lovely beds, lamps, and furniture, and the outstanding customer service. Some of the staff even remembered us from last year! They made us feel like we were special guests, looking out for our best interests, and making our stay as enjoyable as possible. An added bonus is that the 1910 Grille is now open, and it is fabulous! I will write another review for that experience. Hats off to Shelley for her excellent memory and warm service, and also to Deb for working hard to get us the best room possible in our price range! They are gems.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the North (the park - this is the best), the west, or the east, but try to avo...

My husband and I stayed 2 nights at the Historic Park Inn. We are Frank LLoyd Wright enthusiasts, so staying at the HPI was the reason for our trip to Mason City. Booking the room on-line was easy once we were able to find availiability for a 2 night stay. We were later told by the front desk that occupancy is at 90% year round, so plan ahead and be flexible with your travel dates.

The rooms have all the modern conveniences, yet remain as true as possible to the true spirit of FLLW. Unexpected, yet appreciated, modern elements were a large flat screen TV, a coffee maker and a small frig. A continental breakfast--coffee/tea, juice, yogurt and bagel/muffin--was complimentary.

This was a wonderful experience to add to our "collection" of FLLW venue visits.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Historic Park Inn Hotel, together with City National Bank, of Mason City Iowa were designed by American architect Frank Lloyd Wright as a dual purpose building and completed in 1910. The design greatly influenced architecture in Europe and is as striking today as it ever was. The Park Inn Hotel is the last Wright designed hotel in the world, and has undergone a nearly 20 million renovation; the restoration of the distinctive brick and terra-cotta façade as well as art glass windows has restored the Prairie School building to a functional hotel. The interior, while renovated into a contemporary hotel, has public areas and guest rooms restored as closely to Wright's design as possible. Art glass and much else designed by Wright remains. Public area furnishings are period-style and include reproduction Robie House Lights, reproductions of the Mercury statues Richard Bock and Wright designed for the bank, and reproductions of the barrel chairs Wright designed for the bank directors' room. We invite you to come and stay with us in the center of the many area attractions Mason City has to offer. ... more   less
