Kelly and I tried to eat at the Bon Apetite next to our unit at Flamingo but the rainy weather made us search elsewhere for a simple, light meal near the resort. With no great expectations we stumbled on Luna Rossa, near where one of our previous favorites Patagonia was located.
Seating at 8:30 was no problem in the small restaurant area and the hostess/owner was very cordial. 3 stars on the appetizers which were pasta fagiole for me and lobster bisque for Kelly. The bisque was flat and not properly seasoned and the croutons were a total miss. No way even close to the lobster bisque en crotte at Bazatzu.
The entrees were a clam pasta dish for Kelly and veal parmigiana for me. Food arrived quickly and the presentation was very good. My veal was cooked very well, medium rare, and Kelly said her clams were sweet and there were plenty. 4 stars for the entrees.
As I paused near the finish of my veal, the waitress (local) came over to the table aand took my plate while Kelly was still eating. VERY BAD FORM and more like a Waffle House for class of service. I allowed it since we did want to include a review of the good, and the bad.
The wine was average for house wines, reasonably priced. The sparkling water was warm so we had to add ice ( BAD FORM ).
All in all and with over 20 years of fine dining experience experience on St. Martin, we can't give Luna Rossa more than an average rating this year. If they can improve their service and survive until next season, we'll gladly return for a 2nd try. We're off to Tropicana tonite (01/004) for our second visit this week. They earn one of our Top Five every year which also includes, Bazatzu - Spiga - Le Pressoir aand Kakao for lunch.
Good try Pia! Work on the staff serving manners and consider the decor for 2014 and you'll be a 4 Star venue. Good value for the price $ 100 for two including wine and tip.
