“Can't wait to go back!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2010

In March, two mom's from New England took our 20 year old daughter's to St. Maarten for Spring Break. What a great trip. We stayed at the Royal Palm for 9 days. The suites were clean and very spacious. We had an ocean front room that had two bedrooms and two baths and a full kitchen and large living room area (plus a balcony). The resort was very safe and the staff was friendly. The beach and pool were small but nice. The lobby had free wi-fi and so the girls were able to keep in touch with friends. The location of the resort was excellent.... Only minutes from the airport, walking distance to the grocery store, to restaurants, bars, etc. The poolside bar was great - the bar tenders
(Mike and Oscar) were delightful. Jessie J at the front desk was also extremely nice.
They gave us great tips as to where the hot-spots were and the best nights to go.
We will definately return.
The only downfall - maid service only a couple times per week and so ask for extra towels. The restaraunt at the hotel is "okay" but there are so many other great places to eat. However - still a great resort for the money.
Don't miss walking or driving over to the Red Piano Bar in the evening - We became regulars there.

The Royal Palm Beach Resort is a wonderful place to stay. The rooms are fantastic as are the views. We had a 2 bedroom, 2 bath unit on the second floor. It had more than enough room and was stocked well. We stayed 2 weeks and the maid came 4 times, each time the cleaning was completed expertly! The front desk staff was very pleasant and the resort manager Simone was very friendly and accommodating. We have been going to St. Maarten since 1991 and usually stay at the Flamingo Beach Resort but liked the Royal Palm much better!

Traded in vacation club points to stay here, and was a little worried by the reviews. Our room was very nice, the maid only came once in our 5 night stay, but we didn't request or really need additional service. Staff was nice and helpful, so I'm sure they would've sent someone if we asked. Maid had the place spotless on that one visit though! In mid april there were a lot of families, 60+ folks. I did not join the occasional Marco Polo or Aqua Aerobics game at the pool, but overall it was a quiet atmosphere near the pool or beach. Free wireless internet in lobby/pool/edge of beach area was a plus for me too.

Simpson bay is only a few minutes from SXM. The strip is full of nice restaurants and bars you can walk to from the hotel. We rented a car to check out Dawn Beach and Orient Beach on the French side. Both gorgeous, and sandy compared to the rockier simpson bay.

I recommend diving with Ocean explorers, just 2 lots past Royal Palm. The shark dive with Jeff is amazing. Lunch or dinner at Lee's Roadside grill for great ribs and seafood. Lobster Thermidor at Pineapple Pete's. Crepes for breakfast or dessert at Gelateria. I think somewhere between the crepe place and pineapple pete's was a great bakery (also good for breakfast or dessert) Belle Epoque in marigot for superb duck in a mango ginger sauce. Must also throw an honorable mention to the 2 bars that share a beach with Royal Palm. Friendly staff, and live music some nights at the near bar and the bar at the end of the beach has good food at the grill, and a pretty cool firepit at night.

Our condo unit was a 2 bed and 2 bath. Rooms are very clean and newly updated. The kitchen had every appliance and we shopped at the grand mache to get groceries for the week. The grand mache is a grocery store right down the street, the prices are a little higher but that is expected. The food is really expensive so it helped having the full size kitchen. They also had a really large gym with weight machines, cardio, fitness studio.
The one complaint I do have is it was very loud. We loved having the windows open and the slider open all day and night. At 9am every morning, they had aerobics in the pool, so we woke up to loud music. One morning, they had rap music playing at 6:45am, and i called down to the front desk and they did nothing about it.
The hotel is close to many restaurants, the airport, maho, etc. but if you are looking for a quieter location, this is not the one for you. Definitely rent a car as there is so much to see on the island. Parking can be difficult but it helps if you rent a little car. I would go back to St. Maartin, but would probably stay at a different hotel only because of the noise.

My husband and another couple and my self stayed in a 2 bedroom at the Royal Palm and my son and friends stayed in a 3 bedroom. The condos are really nice,,spacious and everything you would ever need. Beautiful view over the water,,,able to watch the mega yachts enter and leave the lagoon area. Never hear the traffic on Welfare Rd. Absolutely everything is near by. Pool is small but nice. Only one complaint,,,kids were allowed to take up swim up bar seats which was a little inconvenient. Staff were more than pleasant. We totally would stay there again. Lots of hot water, air conditioner worked well and need I say St.Maarten is an awesome island. Cannot wait to go back. My son had tried the villa experience but preferred the condos here, mostly because of the location. Right across the street from Lady C's and the younger crowd had a ball there. We did not eat at Royal Palm so cannot comment on that, but there are so many places within walking distance it was not a problem. Loved the place!!!!

We stayed at the Royal Palm Beach Resort and we could not have had a better experience. The hotel is a very short drive from the airport. We had Unity car rental pick us up at the airport .Unity's lot is less than a two min. from the hotel (Unity takes you back also). The greeting at the front desk was warm and friendly. Check in was quick and the next thing you know you are in your room with an unbelievable view of the carribean sea. The room was very clean. Two large bedrooms with seperate baths. A fully stocked kitchen. Dining area with a living room....sleep is easy with the ocean surf in the background..
The Resort dining is very good. If you want to step out just walk across the street. Several great dining establishments with in walking distance (recommend Skipjacks and try the tuna). With the rental car you can explore the island and its beaches. A must visit is Orient beach...rated best beach in the world and I would have to seconded that....you can rent two lounge chairs with an umbrella for ($20 and comes with a waiter !!!) The only negative was traffic.....allow extra driving time wherever you go......check airlines for travel deals....we got a good deal on delta....the airport is new and very efficent also......best vacation in a long time

Stayed here beginning of April 2009 and my wife and I loved it. Exchanged our timeshare in Florida for a week here. 2nd time to St.Maarten, 1st time here. They placed the two of us in a THREE bedroom end suite. I'm talking 3 bedrooms with 3 full baths, full kitchen. We couldn't have been happier. Fantastic view. They only have two and three bedroom suites.
We rented a car for the week, very reasonable prices, no need to set up in advance, you have every rental company at the airport. We had good luck with the two different companies we used both visits. A car is a must. You have to travel the island and visit all the great beaches. Bring a soft side cooler and pack it every day before you leave. Because you have a full size fridge, go to the main grocery store in Phillipsburg and stock up on everything you need. They have all the American beers and wines and food. Prices no different than the states.
There are many restaurants in walking distance from the Hotel. The food at the Hotel is good. We ate there a few times. We have reservations for Feb 19th thru 26th 2010. Can't wait.
