“Great service.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 11, 2013 via mobile

The kitchen was fully stocked but the living room area was pretty outdated. One of the bedrooms had molding behind the head board. The room wasn't in tip top shape, but the balcony view was excellent, loved that. not to many activities, no shows, etc. You must have a car, you drive everywhere, but be prepared to drive on the other side of the road (Americans). My most fun was actually being able to catch a ferry ride to the next country over (Anguilla) that was pretty cool. The resort itself so so... The staff was excellent! Front desk handled everything, they were curteous amd nice. The swim up bar is another excellent feature and there the people are great there to!

We had a wonderful stay at the Royal Palm. The staff was very helpful, rooms and property well kept. The security was excellent. Wonderful location for the regatta and access to all island attractions. We have been traveling to St. Maarten for many years and were very pleased with this property.

We stayed here for a week feb 23 - march 2 and was extremely happy with the friendly staff and convenient location. I would definitely return to this resort.
There was a mosquito issues in the beginning but once we figured out running the ceiling fans minimized it we were ok.
Best resort in the area by far!!

This was the only hotel adjacent to the airport available for just one night. All other nearby hotels required two night minimums and we needed to stay close to the airport as we were in transit to St Barths. The room was paid for in advance but when we checked in at 9PM we were required to sign and approve a $250 credit card voucher for "incidentals" Our room was a 2 bedroom apartment, although we had reserved a standard king room. Accomodations were comfortable, but well worn. Small ants were plentiful on the bathroom floor.
When we checked out early the next morning, we were informed that we owed over $300 for a time sharing fee. Eventually, we got the fee waived and the credit card slip torn up, but it was a very stressful 15 minutes. The reservation had been booked and paid for through Travelocity. If I had not been able to produce my Travelocity receipt, I would have lost the argument at check out.

Thank you for your feedback. We are very sorry for the misunderstanding which seems to have taken place during your check-out and we apologize for any inconvenience caused due to this. Please be assured, this has been addressed with the appropriate department to guarantee that similar situation will not occur in the future.
We regret to read about the occurrence of ants in the bathroom - we would like to take this opportunity to note that such incidents are not common at Royal Palm Beach Club. Should you have contacted the reception with regards to this issue, our team would do their best to rectify this as soon as possible.
We regret that you have been disappointed with your stay with us, should you decide to give us another chance, we would ensure that you have a faultless and relaxing stay. We wish all the best on your future travels.

This is a timeshare hotel and if you go as a "normal" hotel customer (or as a timeshare owner at another resort) you should be prepared to be treated a class below "owners". The maintenance policy of the hotel is to make sure the maintenance man is seen but to avoid anything that requires any capital investment. They painted all the speed bumps in the parking lot when I was there but the back of the property by the pool is cracked and discoloured with loose wires hanging out and broken lights. The artificial beach needs to be resanded - there are areas of it where you can see the underlying concrete the "beach" was built on. WiFi is very spotty and is limited to the hotel lobby.

The biggest insult is the gym. They offer paid membership to island locals. Luckily St. Maarten is the Friendly Island and they are nice but this is pretty pitiful and I can't think of being at another resort/facility where this is the policy. They don't even use the monetary intake to make sure the facility is nice. All the equipment is ancient, the air conditioning in the main gym was broken, and even basic maintenance was completely ignored (one of the mirrors by weight set broken and they haven't even cleaned up the broken glass, the gym needs a good/thorough clean).

Rooms aren't filthy but there is not attention to detail and no apparent checklist to make sure rooms are in order (i.e. food crumbs in fridge/freezer, toilet base that moves when sat on, patio doors that are very difficult to open, no water pressure in one of the two showers in the unit, inconsistent amenities in each room which we discovered after being forced to move for "an owner" with one night's notice that was received at 11pm the evening before for 10am the next morning with no new room ready to be moved into).

There is no resort feel as they have outsourced the restaurant, bar, and towel services to folks that don't really care about being part of a person's overall resort experience. Most of the clientele is 65 and over and have "been there for years" which probably explains some of the resort's complacency. These people seem to get an extra level of service that your average visitor there shouldn't expect to receive.

The location is near the airport/Maho which is nice but you do need a car if you want to get to an actual beach on the island (or alternatively don't want to scrape for poolside chairs with the grandmas and grandpas who get up at 6am to reserve chairs that they don't use). If you are looking for any type of luxury or service-oriented experience and/or are on a couples getaway you should definitely avoid Royal Palm.

This was my second trip to St Maarten and my second stay at the Royal Palm Beach Resort and again I was very happy with my stay. There were a few peccadillos, but hey, it's a vacation.
Pros: The views! Every room has an ocean view with a huge sliding window that slides open making for a nice ocean breeze. The rooms are very roomy and comfortable and well maintained. The beds are very comfortable. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. They seem to be in the background watching to offer assistance and appear from out of thin air to help. When we went to the grocery store there was someone there with a cart to help us up to our room with our groceries as soon as we parked our car. When we checked out we had only taken a few steps out the door with our luggage when someone showed up to help us take our luggage down. Location! We loved the convenience of walking across the street to Lee's Roadside Grill where they serve great fish and ribs for a very good price and they have great daily drink specials and there are several other great restaurants within walking distance. There was one really good one behind the Flamingo near the Red Piano Bar but I forget the name of it. If you want to do any kind of water activity or excursion you're walking distance from Pelican Marina where most are offered. There were plenty of lounge chairs around the pool and palapas available on the beach so people saving spots was never an issue. We spent time at the pool area at the sister resort the Flamingo and the bartender Jaime was fantastic. You haven't lived until you try one of his peach passions. Make sure to check it out early in your stay. We didn't go until towards the end of our stay and once we found it we spent the rest of our pool time there in the afternoons. On some days they had vendors set up in the lobby area with jewelry and hand made crafts that are fun to check out. Ladies come around selling beach cover-ups for a good price so don't worry about packing too many because they have a huge variety to choose from. Don't worry about high pressure though because they offer and move on.

Cons: Traffic-I didn't think it was possible but the traffic has gotten even worse since our last trip. There were several times where we sat at a near dead stop trying to get back to the resort. Beach Towels-They were constantly running out of beach towels at the resort. We got to the point where we would ask what time the linen truck arrived and would be waiting for them so we were sure we would get a towel. Also, every time we went to get a towel the woman who gave the towels out tried to talk us into a timeshare presentation. We were there for two weeks and every day when we went to get our towels she acted like she had never laid eyes on us before and asked us the same question of how long we were staying as she led up to offering the presentation. Drinks-The ladies working at the bar were very nice but the drinks at the swim up bar were not good. It seemed that the staff filled in doing a variety of different duties and it was obvious that none of them were professional bartenders. If you're a beer drinker or a rum and coke type of drinker that won't be an issue because the basic drinks are fine. Just go to the sister resort if you're looking for blender drinks. Housekeeping-I mentioned how wonderful the staff was. This was true with the exception of one housekeeping lady who had a constant scowl on her face. Also, housekeeping was practically non-existent. We stayed for two weeks and they only came in once during our entire stay. As helpful as the staff was I'm sure they would have rectified the situation if we had complained but compared to the great time we were having it was a small issue wasn't worth worrying about.
All in all I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again or to recommend it to friends. I may also try out the sister resort, The Flamingo on my next visit. Make sure to head over to the French side of the island for a fantastic meal. I highly recommend La Villa.

Room Tip: I don't think you can get a bad room here.

Besides having a great view, calm scenic surroundings and nice staff, Royal Palm resort is not the kind of hotel to stay at if you expect the best (especially if on official government or business trip). Check in time is 4 p.m. -- so if you arrive during morning hours, find something to do before you actually check-in. Even when check-in time arrives, the room was (still) not ready to be occupied (since it was being clean). And by the way, check-out time is 10 a.m.. Yes, you got it! (or is it just me?). It's quite annoying to find out that rooms are not automatically cleaned every day. Getting early morning breakfast would be a welcome addition as would be rooms with no mosquitoes. All in all, I would not recommend this hotel for guests that are not time-share participants. There are a couple of better hotels just around the corner.

Room Tip: Do not book your hotel accommodations via Expedia. You may regret not being able to switch hotel aft...

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience at Royal Palm Beach with us!

Check-in time is listed on our confirmations and all third-party sites at 4pm, to ensure that our rooms are thoroughly cleaned for our guest arrivals. We are more than happy to check our guests in early, if rooms are available before that time. While delays can occur during periods of high occupancy, we can assure you that we are diligent about ensuring that our rooms are clean and ready by check-in time.

Housekeeping is done mid-week for stays of 7 days or more. If you require additional housekeeping, please contact the front desk for the request.

While we understand that mosquitoes are not welcome guests in your room, they are prominent in the area and can be found all over the island. We recommend that you keep doors and windows closed, when not in your room. You can also leave your screen door closed so that you can enjoy the weather and avoid the intrusion.

We regret that Royal Palm Resort did not fit your needs, but we appreciate the feedback from your stay. Every guest comment, good and bad, is a key to perfecting the experience of future guests.
