“Nice Surprise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2011

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights in early June. Check in was easy and we were given a room on the 2nd floor which was easy to access through the back of the building with was the 2nd floor - no climbing stairs! The room had 2 queen beds and we received a "manager's rate" of $71.99 a night. The only downside was lack of drawer space. Because they put a microwave and refrigerator in the cabinet the TV was on, it only left 2 small half size drawers to put items.
When we returned to the hotel the 2nd day, the room seemed warm as the day progressed it got warmer and warmer. I called the front desk and was told the maintenance man was on a shuttle run...I asked if we could change rooms and they did find a room on the same floor to move to and the air conditioner worked fine in this room.
Their cooperation was much appreciated especially since there was record 90+ degree temps outside.
The hotel also offered a free full breakfast buffet with the room rate. This was not served with plastic ware or on paperplates. There was actual china dishes and silverware! Selections included fruit, bread, bagels, bacon, sausage, corned beef hash, scrambled eggs, pancakes, french toast, breakfast potatoes, biscuits and gravy juice, coffee, etc. The food was good and the server was kept busy but always friendly.
The hotel has a nice indoor pool and whirlpool which weren't busy when we were there but we weren't there on a weekend.
Overall, I was suprised and pleased with the hotel and the value for the money.

Traveled to Dubuque the weekend of April 29th and stayed at the Best Western. Outstanding customer service from check-in to check-out. The pool area is a wonderful place to relax, the rooms were clean and comfortable. I got a great deal on this hotel on the priceline name your price. The hot breakfast was also excellent! Will definitely stay again!

Room Tip: Name your price on priceline for a 3 star

We chose this hotel as our place of stay when we headed to Dubuque for a weekend at the casinos. The price was much better than the other hotels we checked, by requesting the Manager's Special available online. The resort was very clean. The staff was very accommodating and got us into our rooms prior to the 3pm check-in. The room was clean, pillow top king bed was very comfortable and they kept us away from the pool, so it was probably one of the quietest stays I have had in a hotel. We used the shuttle service to take us from the hotel to the casinos and it worked out perfect. We had our evening meal at the Champs restaurant hooked to the hotel and found it to be nice. Pretty much just limited ourselves to appetizers and sandwiches. Our Sunday morning breakfast was also at Champs as part of the hotel price and was an excellent hot buffet. Only drawback at the hotel was the pool and hot tub were pretty much taken over by the kids, which also made the atrium area very loud. No problem, we just didn't end up using it.

Room Tip: Manager's special $87 for king room.

Checked into this hotel ... hoping it could live up to the recommendations of business collegues. It EXCEEDED the expectations - friendly checkin, knowledgeable front desk and the rooms were spotless. Pool was clean and the towels were large enough and soft. You looking for a ideal getaway for business or pleasure.. stay here!

My husband & I come to Dubuque a couple times a year to have a night or 2 away. We have found this to be our FAVORITE hotel in Dubuque. We love the nicely decorated rooms, everything is new & trendy. Beds are very comfortable. The staff is always very friendly and helpful. One BIG bonus is that they have a sports bar/restaurant connected to the hotel. The food is WONDERFUL and the staff is awesome. We love the convenience of not having to leave the hotel to get a nice meal and having a couple cocktails. Love their new breakfast that is served in the resturant - - very delicious. This hotel really makes you feel like you are their guest. Only wish it was a little closer to the casinos. : )

Stayed here before skiing the next day at Sundown. Read all the good reviews before deciding to stay here. In general, this is a nice recently remodeled hotel. The rooms are clean and very nice. The only negatives for the rooms were that the bathrooms were very plain and there was mildew on the grout of the shower. The pool was average temperature, but the atrium was freezing! They should also close the pool at 10pm instead of 11pm. It's hard to go to sleep at 10:30pm when you hear kids screaming "Marco, Polo" right outside your door! The free breakfast was fabulous! It was one of the best breakfasts that I've had in a long time. Overall, I would stay here again, but would bring earplugs to try to sleep at 10pm.

This is a bigger hotel (for the area) with an indoor pool, adjoining restaurant and other amenities. This was our 2nd stay here, so that's about as good of an endorsement as anything I could write.

Our room was spacious and in good condition. I have two, albeit minor, complaints about the room: the air conditioner took too long to cool the room and the coffee maker was a one-cup variety that produced scalding coffee-water. I thought the bed was above-average, but my wife found it too firm. The room had a mini-frig and microwave.

The hotel is on one of the main highways that run through Dubuque, so the location is 5-10 minutes from the downtown/river front, shopping, the casino, etc. The hotel grounds had a lot of grassy areas for walking our dog, including a small park-like area in the back. I noticed that some of the hallways smelt of smoke but I suspect that's from people smoking next to the enterances.

On previous trips to Dubuque we had stayed at a nearby hotel which is much cheaper but devoid of anything that might be considered an "amenity." But nowadays my wife doesn't tolerate my cheapness like before, so we've upgraded to the BW Midway and have been happy with that choice.
