“Worst Hotel Experience Ever!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 11, 2011

We had made reservations weeks in advance for a two night stay for our extended family to visit the Dubuque area. When we arrived, the desk person informed us that they only had reservations for one night. The desk person called the Manager to the desk to help us. The Manager (Sonny?) informed us that they were full on the second night and that there was nothing he could do for us. He made some feeble attempts to find us rooms. I even confronted him and told him that we were doing his work for him- he didn't seem to know what customer service is. We spent the next 2+ hours on their lobby computer finding our own accommodations while the Manager left the hotel to "run some errands". We ended up finding much better accommodations at the Timmerman's Resort in East Dubuque. Also, the pictures on their website are misleading. The hotel lobby is nothing more than a small hallway. The pool is smaller than most hot tubs. Don't be deceived. This hotel needs new management!

Room Tip: DO NOT STAY HERE! This hotel needs new management!

We have stayed at this hotel before, but what a change this time. After remodeling, the rooms are very relaxing. I would like to see the breakfast past 10 am. We will continue to stay here. Thanks

An okay place to stay if you're just passing through Dubuque.
Pros: I experienced a friendly front desk staff with good restaurant recommendations and speedy check-in/check-out times. The extra space to sit and eat breakfast is nice as it can get crowded at times.
Cons: As of 10/16/2010 HBO was not available, but there were plans to get it soon. The curtains were falling apart and needed updating/fixing in our room (243). There was no draw string or rod to shut them so it had to be done manually. The only ice machine I found was located near the lobby so it was a little walk to and from. The 32" tv in the room description online was only about 20".

We organized a stay at this hotel for a group. We stayed 3 nights and used an average of 16 - 18 rooms each night. I've never before had to feel apologetic to a group about lodging facilities. We made arrangements 4 months in advance checking back periodically and were assured that things would be ready for us. Undergoing renovation, yes. But rooms in the process of renovation shouldn't be sold. Many of our group reported problems from missing/broken items to unchanged sheets and linens.
Many hotel staff were unfriendly, unprofessional, and uninformed. Never the same story. Housekeeping was disorganized. Management was inaccesable, just desk staff. A couple of staff were very helpful, and that salvaged our stay. Not planning another stay here. I can't believe the former reviewer stayed here the same weekend and gave it such a positive review !!!

We have stayed here in past. This year we came back for fair and were surprised at the room. They remodeled the entire hotel and it shows. Nice job. Breakfast hours needs to be past 10 am. Thank you.

I couldn't agree more with the reviewer that said it was a"total dump"! The odor was very musty / moldy. I'm not a clean freak, but the bedspreads, pillows were just not clean,. In room coffee pot had mold in the old coffee left in pot. No hair dryer, small room, 1st floor room but 5 ft outsdie window, entire view blocked by huge dumpster. Close to a lot of shopping, restaurants, soccer fields, etc. The folks working there are good, but the hotel itself really needs a thorough cleaning if not a total facelift.

Stayed at this motel in the past, and it was excellent. That's not the case anymore. They have new owners. The past owners may have let it run down, so it may not be entirely their fault. Our room was located to a noisy floor of youth Baseball families for a tournament. Paper thin walls. The main disappointment was when we got the room it was stuffy. We ran the a/c. left for Supper and movie, came back, the room wasn't still wasn't cooled off. The A/c was broken. Went to the front desk and they offered me a fan? I said we wanted our money back, and we'd go somewhere else after that. They then could find another room , but it was still by the noisy kids and families. I said we wanted to be away from all of that. They hesitantly gave us a better room on the other side. The breakfast was excellent. We'll never stay here again.
