“Very nice.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2013

If you're looking for no frills, down to earth, nice Italian food in a restaurant that's been in the family for close to 50 years, this is the place to go. Very reasonable prices, nice help, decent parking.

“Fair Food, Below Average Service”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2013

Restaurant was highly recommended by locals owning a downtown Dubuque business. Server did not manage her tables well, we were in a side room and had our order taken before another group they recieved their food first but their order came in parts and part of the group was finished before one member recieved his dish. When our food arrived our appitizer arrived with the main dish even though we had indicated we wanted before the meals. Once the food arrived the server was not seen for a significant length of time which kept us from discussing the issues.

The food was disappointing based on the buildup and our expectations, the veal scaloppini I had was cooked correctly and the veal was very good quality but the dull tasteless gravy was over whelming, there was a lack of any seasoning, salt helped, pepper was a must. The side salad was fresh but uninspired; the blue-cheese dressing is not worth the $1 upcharge unless you want to play a game of find the blue cheese morsel.

My daughter went with the highly recommended panzerotti (may be spelled incorrectly here). Too doughy, too greasy, too little peperoni and way too disappointing. My wife’s pizza was acceptable but not outstanding as it also lacked flavor, salt and pepper helped.

The place is an old fashion neighborhood restaurant but unfortunately the food fell short on flavor and service was lacking considering a bill of almost $80 for three including tip.

“Nothing Fancy, But Good Food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2013

Don't look for fancy decor, Service is friendly and attentive without a constant, hovering presence. Very nice. Their marinara is thick, not runny, and herbed well with rosemary, basil and oregano, but if you aren't absolutly crazy about pasta, don't expect to be bowled over by it. It's just good Italian fare, like you'd get in and good Italian family kitchen. After all, what can you expect from pasta?

Their appetizers are VERY good with some unique choices. Calamari is done perfectly; toothsome and flavorful, and not rubbery. Onion rings are freshly made on site and are delicious. The big surprize is the "Sunfish". These are thin fillets from freshwater Bluegills, Pumpkinseeds and Sunfish breaded in seasoned flour and quickly deep fried. What a delight. I know of no other restaurant that serves them and these little panfish are some of my favorite fish ever. The pizza bread is good too, with lots and lots of toasted, chopped garlic on it, yum!

“Mmmmmm!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2013

Choose anything from the menu and you won't be disappointed. Their sauces are wonderfully Italian. And their pizzas will bring you back for more.

“Retro Italian Restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2013

First impressions are of a 1950's restaurant - you're back in time! We loved our meals, had good wine, and enjoyed the friendly atmosphere.
