“Outstanding location and great property”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2013

The desk was always well-staffed and I never had to wait for assistance. We received a lovely room on the 9th floor that featured two separate bathrooms, which was a bonus since I was traveling with my teen daughter. I was able to park on the street at no charge, as long as I removed the car by 7AM. Paid lots were conveniently located as well, but I'm cheap! We didn't try the restaurant, but it looked better than most hotel food and the bar was great and open until midnight. Bedding was very comfy, and we slept well. The walls were a bit thin, as was to be expected in an older property, but the charm of the downtown location and the historic feel of the property definitely made up for it.

Very nice hotel, wonderful large rooms, many with 2 bathrooms (my son scored a single bathroom and kitchenette). Comfortable beds, nice amenities (though I had to track down the hair dryer because it was in the "other" bathroom!). Free Wi-Fi. Had to pay for breakfast though.

So, why not a "5"? Room not ready when I arrived, after the check-in time of 3 PM. In their favor, they offered another room, but I was joining a group and wanted to be nearby. When I did get in, room not quite thoroughly prepared, a wet pod in the coffee maker, a partially filled out room service request, something spilled in the hallway to the back bathroom. Once again, in their favor, they did ask about any problems at checkout and seemed interested in getting them resolved.

Would certainly stay here again. Great restaurant, very convenient, friendly staff, and it's always wonderful when a grand old hotel is renovated to this standard.

The hotel is located in a great location which makes it easy access to everything downtown (Court Avenue, Farmer's Market, etc.). The staff was very pleasant and helpful. The rooms are nice, but not very big. The building is old, but nicely decorated and very modern. A parking garage is located across the street and there is free parking on weekends (unless there is a special event and then of course they will charge you). I was also issued a parking ticket for supposedly parking in a restricted area, though I parked right in between two other vehicles in an open stall where there were no sign stating it was restricted anywhere, but that's more of an issue with the city than the hotel. I liked the 24-hour access to the gym which was adequate for what I wanted to do. Overall, a good stay for the money.

This beautiful, historic hotel is located in a great area in walking distance to some great restaurants. My room was bright and clean and the bed was very comfortable. The staff was great and I love how the hotel blends modern touches with the past. One of my favorite touches was the picture in the bathroom that gave a history lesson on the history of the building. Do not hesitate to stay here - I can't wait to return!

The Renaissance Savery Hotel, gets my vote for best hotel in Iowa. the building itself amazing, not to mention this hotel is on the National Historic Register. Sure it has been redecorated since the hotel opened its doors in 1919. The recent renovation is just marvelous, the lobby looks absolutely stunning, so do the rooms. Also be warned rooms are a tad smaller than you think, this is probably due to the fact to the hotel management probably wants to keep the historic integrity of the building well still maintaining a contemporary vibe. Now the catering at this place, my goodness it's amazing, of course I only had one meal at the hotel and that was breakfast, but it was really good, they served a complementary smoothie which was really good, I liked how some of the ingredients came from farms around Iowa. They do have a Swimming Pool which is on the Lower level, it only goes down to 4 feet deep, there is also a hot tub, weird story when I first checked in there was water in the hot tub, the next day it was drained, now that is really strange. Overall I loved it, I think this hotel is a definite success story.

I live in the area so have never stayed here before, but we were having a girls weekend and picked this hotel. Our rooms were clean and updated. Beds/pillows were very comfortable. Everyone was friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the restaurant for Sunday brunch and make your own omelets. The charge for parking was minimal for the weekend. Close to all the restaurants and the riverwalk. Definitely recommend this hotel for anyone visiting my city!

Everything was perfect. I am a former Iowan, and perhaps take friendliness for granted; but my boyfriend and I were, BOTH, impressed by the hospitality extended to us at checkin, in seeking directions, and later when returning after evening out. Our room was fantastic with two bathrooms. We slept like babies between the quality of sheets we have found in some of the highest-end hotels in the world. Stay here!
