We stayed here April 20 2008 for the reason it was across the street from the event center (bonjovi). See picture taken from parking lot. We wanted a wheelchair room with a roll in shower. Apparently this hotel isn't much different from other hotels A wide door to the bathroom few rails around toilet and no roll in shower but a adjustable shower chair and a tub with a few rails to grab on to and a shower head on a hose with good spray and pressure. The area around the building really wasn't good for wheelchair access such as the sidewalks to the doors were all curbs that required a step up. The door to the lobby however was low enough for a power wheelchair to go up without assistance. The elevator was incredibly slow and of coarse a lot of lazy people that just refused to use the stairs, I didn't need the elevator so I used the stairs and let my friend wheel in to the elevator . I would stay here again if I happen to be going to the event center across the street just cause of the location and not because of price or real quality. I have stayed in days inn's that were just as good and a 1/4 of the cost too. Room was clean and plenty of channels on the tv and the inputs on the tv actually worked so one could bring a dvd player in if wanted to I used it for camcorder.

We stayed at the Quality Inn on our way back from Adventureland. September 2007.The hotel picture made it appear to be in a nice open area, but it is sandwiched in between some commercial property and right on a very busy street. I was VERY surprised and somewhat disappointed. But our room was clean and the kids loved the pool. Breakfast was good, typical Quality Inn fare. I might stay there again depending on what's available in the area. Diane

We had not stayed in the Des Moines area before and wanted to make our State Fair weekend trip a little less hectic so opted for an overnight stay. We looked for a hotel close to a Fair Shuttle Bus pickup point, read reviews on Trip Advisor, checked availability and ended up here. We booked about 3 weeks prior to our dates and secured a suite. A prior stay at a different Quality Inns was the absolute worst of our lives, so we were a little apprehensive and were ready to reject the place if our reasonable, minimum standards of cleanliness, elbow-room and bedding were not met. Parking and check-in went smoothly, and the front desk staff person was pleasant. She also offered to set up a ride on the hotel shuttle bus to the Fair Shuttle pickup point - which ultimately we discovered was farther away in the July heat than we had visualized on a map.The room ( 504 ) had a nice pine-paneled theme, a great view of the State Capitol, a large clean bathroom, a too-soft master bed in the separate bedroom, and a big television in the living area. Sofa bed was terrific for our ten year old. Mattress in the master BR was way too soft for us so we pulled it onto the floor - plenty of room for that maneuver, or it would have been a very uncomfortable night for us. After a long day and evening at the Fair we enjoyed the indoor pool that remained open until 11 PM - water was a bit cool but after so hot a day it was welcome. No sauna or hot tub at the facility. Hotel was fairly quiet in the hallways etc. Breakfast was included in our rate and it is an all you can eat buffet setup with the make-your-own-waffle station, toast/bagels, fruit, fruit juices / coffee , eggs , gravy and biscuits, cereals etc. Something for everyone and we thoroughly enjoyed it. We were relieved, pleasantly surprised and grateful to have a better than average overnight stay at a hotel we knew nothing about on a family weekend we had been looking forward to all summer.

We stayed here during the State fair week. The hotel is in a great spot to go to the fair and any shops downtown. The hotel inside is nice. Inside the rooms the bathrooms are disgusting. The caulk around the shower is black and the floors are dirty and were not grouted correctly. The view from our room was of the State capital which was cool at night. I would stay here again, since the bathroom is not a huge deal. Also I recommend eating at Court Ave Brewery, great food; it’s about 4 miles from the hotel. Also try to go to the Blank zoo in Des Moines if you have kids.

I was satisfied for the most part with my stay in this hotel. But for the price, I felt the service was very poor. The breakfast was fantastic, but when we went to the restaurant for a meal, the service was ghastly. We stood by a table for 15 min. waiting for it to be bussed. No staff came near us. We finally found a towel & cleaning solution sitting on an another table & took that & bussed our own table. We sat another 30 min. before a waitress came anywhere near us. She was 78 years old & when we commented that they must be understaffed today (on a week-end when the hotel was full up), she said it was that way all the time. No one to buss tables, no help in taking orders & delivering the meals. We only spotted about 3 people for the entire restaurant.
The rooms were ok, but not that much better than a budget hotel - certainly not for the amount of money we paid.
However, the proximity to Wells Fargo Arena made still made it a good choice.
